Still don't it...because I like the person Malcom Floyd. I couldn't care less about what contributions he may - or may not - make as a football player. He needs to negotiate an injury settlement and retire. So says Dr. QSmokey.

All kidding aside, I can't believe his risk is "like everybody else". How could he be? I'm really not happy with this news. But...it's still early. Maybe after TC, after he's had some contact in PS, he'll realize that it's just too big a risk. At least I hope that's what happens.

Why? It's not like he is the only NFL player to come back from a similar injury? Given your extensive medical training, why would you expect him to be at risk for further spinal contusions?

Sarcastic shot at my admittedly less than elite medical training duly noted, Professor.

I have no idea how many players have come back from "similar" injuries. To me, that's irrelevant. Just because others have made questionable, IMO, decisions doesn't make that the de facto way to proceed in all cases. Everyone is different. I watched the replays of Malcom's injury. He was kept motionless for several minutes and then locked into that scary-looking stretcher without the medical people even risking removing his helmet. Precautionary? All "by the book" for that kind of injury? Perhaps. But Malcom has a long and somewhat skinny neck to begin with...and it was damn near fully squashed down into his shoulders.

Descriptions I've read on the Web about "spinal contusions" (I'll take your word that that was the diagnosis) sound more than just an ordinary, lots-of-players-come-back-from-it kind of injury.

So I'll answer your question with a question: Why risk it? I haven't seen the lab tests, and wouldn't know how to interpret them anyway. I haven't talked to doctors about Malcom's case. None of us have. But it was a very serious, season-ending injury, and Malcom is STILL under some physical restriction...9 months after it happened.

If that's the case why didn't you reference even one of those NFL players?

What players have come back from such an injury?

I ask because I can't recall any even though there might be dozens of players that have

No one has the right to decide his future. He's clearly been made aware of the risks, he's choosing to play.

Jermichael Finley (Packers TE) also had a neck injury last year
