2019 Post Wk 7 Power Rankings and Ratings

    Read 'em and ....

Frank Schwab - Yahoo Sports 21 (LW 25)

I can’t get my head around how the Chargers lost on Sunday. Yet, when an apparent final-minute touchdown by Austin Ekeler was reversed and he was ruled down at the 1-yard line, you knew it wasn’t automatic that the Chargers would score. Because they’re the Chargers.

    ----
Walter Cherepinsky - Walter Football 24 (LW 28)

The Chargers stink. Their only cover this year has been against the Dolphins, which doesn't count. Their only win besides that occurred because Adam Vinatieri couldn't kick his way out of a paper bag. They've been blown out in two home games against teams with a combined record of 4-9.

That said, there's some cause for optimism, as it sounds like left tackle Russell Okung will return to action this week. That would be the reason for the Chargers moving up in these power rankings despite losing to Ryan Tannehill.

    ----
    Dan Hanzus - NFL.com 21 (LW 22)

It can't happen. It. Just. Can't. Happen. The Chargers have to find a way to execute in the final minute and win that game in Nashville. The crushing loss to the Titans will be put at the feet of Melvin Gordon, who had another poor game and lost the fumble that doomed Los Angeles, but disaster in goal-to-go situations has become a theme for the Chargers that's reaching historic proportions. This, from ESPN, tells the story: The Chargers have turned the ball over five times in goal-to-go situations this season, which ties them for the most goal-to-go turnovers by a team in the past 15 seasons. It's WEEK 7, people! This feels like a territory of failure and frustration that is unique to this organization. Hopefully this loss, in conference, against a fellow playoff hopeful, doesn't come back to haunt the Chargers. Just don't be surprised when it does.

At 2-5, their season will rest on the next two weeks with games against the Bears and Packers. They find new ways to lose games every week.

Holding out wasn’t Melvin Gordon‘s best leverage to force his way out of town; showing up was.

    ----
Vinnie Iyer - Sporting News 26 (LW 23)

Philip Rivers is the leader of a Big Red Zone Turnover Machine, but Melvin Gordon has joined the club, too. Getting injured at key positions and losing one-possession games are what the Chargers are doing best in 2019, almost as if coach Anthony Lynn, after a playoff season, is haunted by ghosts of Chargers teams past.

    ----
    Matt Verderame - Fansided.com 26 (LW 21)
The Baltimore Ravens pulled off an impressive win over the Seattle Seahawks, while the Philadelphia Eagles are a lost team searching for help.

Los Angeles is about to hibernate for a long winter.

Last year, they didn't lose in regular season when Melvin Gordon was sidelined. This year, they haven't won with him on field.

      ----
      ESPN 24 (LW 21)
The Patriots and Saints want to be No. 1. The Bengals and Dolphins want to draft No. 1. What are expectations like in the NFL now, seven weeks in?

Recalibrated expectation: Turn it around and make a run

Anthony Lynn appears on his way to his first losing season as head coach of the Chargers. At 2-5, the Chargers have dropped three straight and are dealing with significant injuries on both sides of the ball. And the Bolts still have to play the Chiefs twice, along with NFC North powers Green Bay and Minnesota. Even though his team is struggling, Lynn believes the Bolts can turn things around, pointing to L.A.'s 0-4 record at the start of his tenure in 2017, only to finish 9-7. "I know the character of this team," Lynn said. "We have been through a lot together, and I know all of these men work every single day, so I expect them to bounce back." -- Eric D. Williams

Also, the Cowboys and the Colts climb in the rankings after taking the lead in their respective divisions, and after a tough loss to the Titans, the Chargers take their spot near the bottom.

For a game with more on the line than records suggested, the Chargers could not lose. And they absolutely could not, under any circumstances, lose like that. Blame the refs if you want, but all the Chargers needed was one yard. Joey Bosa said it best: “We can find out who wants it pretty quick now.”

        https://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ntering-week-8

In the initial regular-season edition of the Bleacher Report consensus power rankings, the Los Angeles Chargers checked in at No. 11.

        Um…oops.

Those Chargers hit a new low in Sunday's loss to the Tennessee Titans. Looking at a 1st-and-goal from the 1-yard line and a potential game-winning touchdown after an Austin Ekeler score was reversed, L.A. gave the ball to tailback Melvin Gordon. He plunged forward for a touchdown—that was also reversed. So the Chargers gave it to Gordon again. He plunged forward...

        ...and fumbled.

It was a bizarre ending to a game in a season that has unraveled at a dizzying rate—partly due to injuries and partly due to the Chargers' uncanny ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

"This team is just too depleted, and they're Chargering again after a ridiculous loss Sunday in Nashville," Gagnon said. "That's a bad combination. The Bolts have one win in regulation this season, and that came against the league's worst team. With Chicago and Green Bay on deck, their season might essentially be over in a matter of weeks. Gotta feel for Philip Rivers."

This season for the Chargers is going from worse to...more worse? This team is unable to win matchups that its supposed to win on paper and injuries continue to mount. There was ample opportunity to win the game as time was expiring, but they didn't. Something has to change and soon, or else this supposed playoff contender is in serious danger of finishing the season with a losing record.

PFF NFL Power Rankings ELO 19 (LW 18)
With Week 7 of the 2019 season in the books, PFF releases its NFL Power Rankings ahead of Week 8.

Over the past three weeks, the Chargers have lost to Joe Flacco, FCS undrafted rookie Devlin Hodges and Ryan Tannehill. Things are looking grim in Los Angeles. Across those three losses, Melvin Gordon has 36 carries for just 81 yards, 68 of which have come after contact. Only one of those rushes has gone for a first down. The contrast between the first four weeks of the season in which Austin Ekeler recorded a first down or touchdown on 27% of his rushing attempts is stark.

We're entering the eight-week mark of the 2019 NFL season. And division races are taking shape. In Seattle, an impressive victory by the visiting Baltimore Ravens has sent two divisions closer to becoming runaways...

We might find out who's really the worst Dec. 22. Bungles @ Dolphins... who screws up and wins, blowing their chance at the #1 overall pick?

Sadly Chargers have a shot at competing with them........ anyone see any sure(or even likely) wins on Chargers schedule??..... remember Chargers never play well in last game when Chiefs rest everyone and play backups....

maybe we beat raiders once....... but e ben that might not happen.......

                  remaining games :

                  @CHI - likely loss
GB - loss, they are just way better
@OAK - likely loss cause we cannot stop the run
KC - loss, they are just way better
@DEN - Loss, they dominated us in LA, we rarely win in DEN
@JAX - loss, strong running game and defense mean another loss
MIN - loss.... they are just way better
OAK - should be another loss to a sold out raider crowd...
@KC loss.... they are just way better, even playing backups.... maybe Rivers last game playing for cheap Spanos's.......

So winning maybe one more game from here out means we will be either 2-14 or 3-13...... giving us a top 3-ish pick......

Best thing for Chargers would be to start getting blown out........so organization will make changes..... Chargers organization always blames close losses on the players, not the coaches.....
