Jeromey Clary appears set to begin the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, which likely makes Johnnie Troutman the Chargers starting right guard in the Sept. 8 season opener.
Clary’s designation, confirmed by a source, means he won’t count against the 53-man roster but also will require him to miss at least six games.
Clary had offseason shoulder and hip surgeries. It is the more recent May hip surgery that has prevented his return to the field. The eight-year veteran, who has started 93 games for the Chargers, would be eligible to practice after six weeks of the regular season.
With Clary not a part of the 53, the Chargers seem inclined to keep eight offensive linemen.
Troutman has started all three exhibitions at right guard.

Predicting Porkchops starts at RG. He better stop missing blocks or we may see Watt sooner rather than later. Hope he can take that step.
