Honestly, nobody knows. He's far from a lock.

There might always be 5 other guys the HOF voters like more.

If Kurt Warner was a 1st ballot then so is Rivers. I think if he plays a few more years and looks as bad as he has this year it could hurt him.

KW was inducted in his 3rd year of eligibility.

If Dan Fouts was a HOF then so if Rivers.

As discussed in this forum it's super hard to win a SuperBowl. Warren Moon, Jim Kelly, Dan Marino, Dan Fouts never did, many good one's barely did and then there are the Trent Dilfers and Jim Mcmahons that have.

A good comparison to Rivers is Favre, if Favre never won his whole 1 would he be considered not a HOF?

I know people have problems with Rivers INT's but Rivers has appx 50 less INT's than Eli, 50 less than BREES! and 150 less than Favre.

Rivers will be top 5 in yards and td's when he retires. First ballot for sure!

He may have less INTs than Brees but I believe Brees's TD-Int ration is higher. that's what I look at...right now I believe the last I saw rivers was right around 2-1...not GREAT but not bad. He'll probably make it but surely wont 1st-ballot. And Eli shouldnt. He did have some really clutch playoff play but his stats are not all that great.

Without a Super Bowl win, and a MVP, I doubt that PR is a first ballot HOF'er. Another good comparison would be Fran Tarkenton, who retired at the top of the lists for stats, and was in the league for 18 yrs, and didn't get into the HOF until his 4th ballot. Not to change the subject, but Don Coryell has more influence on the league than all but a few players, and will probably have his best chance to get in this year with the special category and expanded class.

I'm sure at some point PR will make it.
Although he's put up huge numbers, he's never been the best - there's always someone in the league, conference, division that's been better. And he's never really been that type of QB that can hoist a team on his shoulders to carry them to victory.
That said, he's been able to answer the bell EVERY game for ALWAYS. And he consistently puts up big yardage. There'll most likely be a place for him in Canton.

Which QB is actually carrying the team on their shoulders to victory on a regular basis though? And on a bad team? I have seen Phil seemingly will the team to wins on numerous occasions throughout his career (see @KC last year), so I disagree with that assessment.

If the NFL was really as "QB driven" as it's portrayed, then why do Brees and Rodgers each only have 1 ring with over 30 years between them.

Not if Rivers retires first.
