Because of his work in the 1980s. I'd heard Henry Ellard and Flipper Anderson talk about Norv when Norv was with the Los Angeles Rams. That potent Rams passing attack? That was Turner. He was an offensive assistant with the Rams for six seasons and I heard that their current passing tree was modeled on Don Coryell's principles. When Norv took his offense to the Dallas Cowboys, everybody found out about him.

Norv's passing tree is pure San Diego Charger football.

But that was as a OC. He sucked as a HC well before he came to us.

        The future is exciting.
        The opportunities are endless.
Hopefully those who vow to leave w/Rivers will reconsider.
        We will begin anew.
        The cycles of football.
        C'mon man.
Try going through this shit several times over a lifetime...54 years.
        We play modern Harball.

I don’t see what happens if we have a great OL if Rivers will continue to make poor decisions.

If he’s going to just throw bombs on 3rd and 2’s and throw into double/triple coverage on 3rd and longs, then I’d say that’s more on him than the protection.

In my eyes, what makes a QB worth $35m is an ability to overcome obstacles and not needing a perfect situation. Otherwise why bother?

Look at what Tannehill has done this season. And Fitz and the hapless Dolphins just did something we never could- beat the Patriots FFS. Journeyman QBs are iut there that can do decent things. Plenty of QBs had a better year than Rivers with FAR less weapons. And I don’t think it’s all OL.

Let's pass on Norv then and bring back Chud (as OC under Ron); he's not doing anything so the Spanii could probably get him.

Agree, Tee...I've said many times, even if u give Rivers a good O-line, there will still be many situations, especially in crunch time, where Rivers makes too many risky throws...yes, into coverage for picks...seen it happen for years...with good O-lines, bad O-lines and in between...

it is about the horrible OL....... TEN has a great OL and super strong power running game leaving single coverage on TEN receivers..... their defense is better......

The long balls are the coaches calls.....and not having KA and eckler running short easy routes that would easily get the first down and keep drives alive is on the coaches

It's like this coaching staff learns nothing from great organizations like NE, NO, KC..... those are the teams and coaches we should emulate..... chargers coaches seem to love to do their own thing even when art does not work....

I also watched his last presser and while I agree with him that he gave it his all and played unabashedly, that doesn’t erase all the issues. I also didn’t like how early on he says, “if I play better that doesn’t mean we automatically win 12 games”. Total deflection, he had some very rough games and fell short on many game winning drive opportunities. The D had plenty of miscues but they never gave a game away except for that Raiders game they couldn’t get a stop (prob more but can’t recall). Their worst outing was MIN, after the offense had like 7-8 turnovers. Not all Rivers, but not on the defense either.

Rivers would always be in the playoffs with better OL and playcalls? Pff. That describes any QB in the league. I’d like some personal accountability other than “if I make less mistakes it doesn’t mean we win 12 games” when he shit the bed more than not.

He’s not the reason we lost today. But he’s more of the reason we’ve gone 5-10 in the other 15 games than anyone else.

Yep...face it--even though Rivers amasses a mountain of impressive stats year after year, he habitually chokes in crunch time. Not EVERY close game, but in many close games. Some years worse than others. Just inexplicable the way he keeps slinging the rock into coverage needlessly, when he has other receivers open, or at least throw the rock away. Sorry, I just don't think Rivers has what it takes to be a winner, especially in super crunch time games like playoffs...

this..... there are lots of problems on this team..... biggest are lack of discipline, OL and DL and no real speed on offense...other teams have multiple 4.4 and 4.5 guys..... chargers dont have any on offense.....

bad OL's force QB's to make decisions they dont want to or throw the ball at wrong time..... also affects play calling from coaches....... look at how many penalties or sacks have been given up by our OL at start of game to put us behind.... or whenever we really need a drive like at end of game......

again coaches running out play clock on every play, tells the defense when we are snapping the ball, when to blitz and gives Rivers far fewer opportunities to score than most other QB's..... and Lynn does that when we are down by multiple scores...... Lynn forces the game to come down to last drive......

Rivers plays best in a hurry up kind of offense where tot offense dictates to defense instead of letting defense dictate.....
