NFL just announced their new TV contracts. Over $110 billion for 11 years. That works out to $312 million per team per year. It's a 70% increase from the $5.9 billion a year current contract (a 70% increase).
The salary cap is going to explode. At a 50/50 revenue split the new TV deal alone would account for 85% of this year's salary cap.
Herbert could sign a $50 million a year extension and it could be a reasonable portion of the cap. It will be wild.
I also think this is a good thing for the Chargers as an organization. Spanos is not the richest owner and they are kind of dependent on the team to generate cash. The relocation fee imposed by the NFL is a lot more manageable when you increase the revenues.“Less is more? NO NO NO - MORE is MORE!”
