I have an unusual theory. That if they had these helmets last year they couldn't go with the all navy and royal uniforms until 2022. They knew the rule would change in 2022....the while helmets are the throwback and these blue helmets are the new primaries?
That's what I was trying to get at. My theory is similar, but because teams are only allowed to change their primary uniform once every five years and as this is a pretty radical change this new helmet will be introduced as an alternate and if the fan feedback is positive then they can make it the primary when the 5 years are up in 2024.
It's my understanding that the throwback needs to at least draw it's inspiration from history but the alternate can be a new design. Kinda cool that we might see this helmet for a couple of games next season. For the record I like it.

Ok i just dont know if it can be an alternate. I honestly didnt read up on the rule. I was lead to believe the 2nd alternate needs to be a helmet used in the past?
If they are going to allow an alternate helmet then they need to bring back the 70's style helmet that those Chargers teams wore. Pair that with there Royal Blue Uniform now that would be sick. Myself I have never really cared for the white Helmets but then again you could have pink helmets woth flowers on them if it wins us a superbowl.
On the prior page? That’s not powder blue - i don’t know what color blue that it is but its not a blue ever associated with the Chargers
I prefer the white but I’m happy to watch occasional blue helmets if its important to you guys
Aqua metallic? Too bad the nfl doesn't let the owners do whatever on their alternates. Would even be cool if they allowed shifting color options as you change viewing directions. color shift metallics anyone? LOL!
I notice how the team seems to avoid wearing the powder blue color against NFC teams. The only NFC teams they've worn them against are the Cowboys in 2017 and 49ers in 2010. Last year they wore them against the Bucs because they had no choice because of the hot weather in Tampa.
I'm going to guess that they wear the navy against the Vikings and the royal blue against the Giants. Based on the pattern that the team wears their uniform colors.

i agree on the royal blue. i grew up with the royal blue helmet, which in my opinion is by far the greatest helmet / facemask they have had.
