Reed is similar in style to Samuel. He fortunately doesn't have Samuel's injury history, but isn't as polished at running routes. But he is also bigger and has the power to break some tackles, as well as beat the press at the line.

There is a limit to how productive he can be as a receiver, which is why there was such an interest in him as a multiple position guy. You want to get him the ball in as many ways as possible, just so he is getting some touches.

As far as the pure speed goes, that is not the only way to make plays, so the fact that Samuel is faster isn't necessarily a point against Reed. The speed would be nice, but it doesn't mean he can't make plays, and he is still fast.

Joe Reed and Deebo tested almost identically with Joe being bigger and stronger. They will both be offensive weapons and playmakers with Joe having a bigger upside with his return skills and receiving potential. Joe has never dropped/missed a catchable ball in his college career over 20 yards.

I guess I meant the same production because as you mention, with KA and MW, even HH and AE, Reed is really like the 5th or 6th option. But, if he shows in camp he can "catch the ball" and "handle a jet sweep" - his ability to make plays with the football in his hands would be a nice dimension to bring to the offense.

Well if those are 2 things you’re looking for FROGGER to do, you will be very pleased. Joe has excellent hands (check his college catch rate %), elite contact balance & concentration through the catch point, gets vertical after catch, has elite vision, the ability to break tackles and make the first defender whiff consistently.

Yes. He also isn’t scared shitless of contact. So that alone is promising!

That really is true. Benjamin was a receiver the Chargers used to stretch the field vertically. Great speed but not the guy you want on reverses and jet sweeps. Too slight. Reed has the build for the jet sweep. But (despite timed 40) doesn't have the speed of Benjamin... or Deebo Samuel.

I predict they use Reed sparingly. He'll be a KR/PR and be used as a WR in motion (jet sweep option) every once in a while. I'd rather see Ekeler used in that capacity. Ekeler in the slot and Josua Kelly in the backfield.

Isn't this a KJ Hill thread? Don't sleep on KJ. I had Hill ranked higher than Kelly and Reed pre-draft. Even though he doesn't have the pure timed speed, he will get open underneath. With receivers in motion and RPO bringing LB's up, KJ will get lost in the chaos and do damage on drags or soft spots in the zone coverage. He's really good at getting open. And with that OL, going to have to get rid of the ball quickly... often underneath...

Here is our WR coach Phil McGeoghan breaking down both our drafted rookie WRs.

P.S. FROGGER has crazy skills and KJ is a smooth operator.

Five or so quick instant one second repeats every play was a bit much on my eyes and brain.

Absolutely and his lower body power, burst, and COD are elite traits.
