Reed is similar in style to Samuel. He fortunately doesn't have Samuel's injury history, but isn't as polished at running routes. But he is also bigger and has the power to break some tackles, as well as beat the press at the line.
There is a limit to how productive he can be as a receiver, which is why there was such an interest in him as a multiple position guy. You want to get him the ball in as many ways as possible, just so he is getting some touches.
As far as the pure speed goes, that is not the only way to make plays, so the fact that Samuel is faster isn't necessarily a point against Reed. The speed would be nice, but it doesn't mean he can't make plays, and he is still fast.
