What if the Chargers Make a Run at Jadeveon Clowney?

We still have some cap space to make it work and if we extend henry or bosa that will free some cap space
imagine that defense with 3 great passrushers at the same time getting to the QB bosa ingram and clowney

I wouldn't call Clowney a great pass rusher. He is a pretty good all around DE, and a GOOD pass rusher but he is actually a better run defender. Everyone assumed that he would turn into a great one because of his elite tools coming out of college, but he never really stepped up to the elite level. Still, he is a good all around player. He has never had double digit sacks. He does get some hits on QB, and OK # of pressures, but he doesn't finish the deal all that well.

I do like the idea of adding a another pass rusher to the rotation. First, while he has lost some of that almost world class takeoff, he is still a pretty fast guy who can use his speed to set up other moves. He would immediately be our fastest edge rusher.

Ingram can be the guy who gets moved around, although Bosa and Clowney have both performed well in that role in the past too. With Murray being an attacking guy, and some depth with Nwosu and Egbule flashing some ability in college, we could do some interesting packaging in terms of the pass rush line/rush LB/drop LB groupings.

As far as the big run stuffing MLB that would be almost impossible to find, we could use Ingram in that role. He already plays MLB in the goalline and short yardage D. It wouldn't be many snaps, but we could use him situationally as the classic thumper, and his pass coverage isn't great, but is OK in that role for a run stuffing LB. He can still run with a lot of TE. Then he can rotate with Clowney and Bosa at the DE spots.

        Clowney
just has an inflated opinion of his own self worth. He wants a contract in the $18 -$20 millions range, which is unlikely for a guy who has never produced at even half that level.

We have a lot to offer free agents other than competitive money
          new territory (market)
          new beautiful jerseys
          franchise qb

all helps in building your own brand as a player

I wouldn’t be surprised to “win more” in free agency

I agree that he needs to learn to finish but he creates a lot of chaos he is a disrupted defender who will be ont he opossite QB minds
And out of the 3 ingram will be moved around he is the most versatile and has played linebacker before

Has Clowney lived up to any of his NFL contracts? Maybe his rookie contract.

We have about $14 million in projected cap space.
The team won't spend all of that, you need some room for in season moves.
Clowney is very likely not possible.

Doesn't he have a couple of character issues that would cause some disruption in the locker room?

Not even in the realm of possibility IMO. #1 priority is LT. That would just a be a dumb move in general when you have a void to fill at one of the most important positions on the field. I would be pissed if TT pulled that move.

Don't see it happening but it would be very imposing for the other team.
