BTW... well thought out mock Blue Thunder! I think you've nailed a lot of teams with players they'd want. Charles Cross... that would be awesome!

Alas, scorn rained down on our board. TT bought this same theory of abundance and waited to Rd 5 and 7 to nab not one but two WRs. They both suck ass. Yes - ass. LOL! Yes, you have to hit on them. I remember liking KJ Hill. Quez Watkins was picked in between Reed and Hill... he's done pretty well. In the 2019 draft, the damn Raiders took Hunter Renfro in the 5th round. The later in the draft you get... the longer the odds.

Here's my first round mock draft with no trades predicted - which that right there pretty much ensures it won't be correct. Anyway, here we go...

    1. Jaguars - Evan Neal, T
    2. Lions - Aiden Hutchinson, EDGE
    3. Texans - Kayvon Thibodeaux, EDGE
    4. Jets - Ahmad Gardner, CB
    5. Giants - Ikem Ekwonu, T
    6. Panthers - Malik Willis, QB
    7. Giants - Travon Walker, DE
    8. Falcons - Garrett Wilson, WR
    9. Seahawks- Derek Stingley, CB
    10. Jets - Drake London, WR
    11. Commanders - Kyle Hamilton, S
    12. Vikings - Trent McDuffie, CB
    13. Texans -Jameson Williams, WR
    14. Ravens - Jordan Davis, DT
    15. Eagles - Jermaine Johnson, DE
    16. Saints - Chris Olave, WR
    17. Chargers - Charles Cross, T
    18. Eagles - Treyvon Burks, WR
    19. Saints - George Karlaftis, EDGE
    20. Steelers -Kenny Pickett, QB
    21. Patriots - Devin Lloyd, LB
    22. Packers - Jahan Dotson, WR
    23. Cardinals - Zion Johnson, G
    24. Cowboys - Tyler Linderbaum, C
    25. Bills - Andrew Booth, CB
    26. Titans - Kenyon Green, G
    27. Buccaneers - Devonte Wyatt, DE
    28. Packers - Trevor Penning, T
    29. Chiefs - Skyy Moore, WR
    30. Chiefs - Daxton Hill, S
    31. Bengals - Tyler Smith, T
    32. Lions - Desmond Ridder, QB

    Some thoughts...

    - The smart move, imo, for the Jags is to take the top OT to help protect their franchise QB, but since when do they make the smart move?

    - It seems like the Panthers have locked themselves into taking a QB at #6 (or trading down and then taking a QB) since they have traded away a lot of their other picks.

    - Hamilton dropping to the Commanders at #11 would be a dream for them, imo. I can imagine that Riverboat Ron can find a good way or two to use him.

    - A few of the popular choices for the Chargers go right before our pick at #17, namely Jameson at #13 (Texans), Jordan Davis at #14 (Ravens), JJ III at #15 (Eagles), and Olave at #16 (Saints).

    - This run on "Charger guys" right before our pick allows Charles Cross to fall to us. We briefly consider taking one of the multiple trade offers that we receive while on the clock, but ultimately the ability to plug in a talent like Cross at RT (that wasn't expected to be there) is too much for us to pass on. It ultimately proves to be the right choice.

    - Somehow the Patriots manage to get the top ILB in the draft simply by staying put at #21. Figures...

    - Both guards that the Chargers would have considered at #17 go in the early 20s, Zion at #23 to the Cardinals and Kenyon at #26 to the Titans, and do well. No buyers remorse for the Chargers with Cross though.

    - Penning slides in #28 to the Packers and benefits from the strong OL coaching in Green Bay.

    - The Chiefs score big with Skyy Moore at #29 and Daxton Hill at #30 (both of whom I REALLY, REALLY like) and I am tempted to throw something at my TV after getting this talented daily double right. I resist the temptation though... barely. Btw, Moore goes higher than expected due to the early run at WR. Hill is just a stud who plays a position of extreme need for the Chiefs. Man, I really hope I'm wrong here.

    - Finally, the Lions take a QB with the #32 pick to lock in that 5th year option on a prime position. In this case, it happens to be Ridder, who proves to be a reach, and the Lions will continue their search at QB for the next decade or so.

The Chargers have talked to McKinley... so there must be interest there.
But I like Bryan Cook better. There were questions about his speed. Then he ran a 4.48 at the combine.
Safety is another deep class... but I think it drops off at the end of the 3rd... McKinley being the cut-off.

Hard to put up numbers when your out all year after having surgery (Reed).
Hill just wasn't that good. Great for college, not the NFL.
Reed is going into his boom or bust year.

And I agree, I was pretty upset we didn't get a WR sooner from that class.

Does anyone like the idea of drafting a safety @#79 and freeing Derwin up to take on big nickel slot and/or nickel/dime LB...?
IMO, a move like that would allow ASJ to go back outside...
The #79 is a pick that could go so many ways if you're not locked in @OG/OT.
Green at 17, McKinley at 79?

3rd: S Bryan Cook. I've looked for a CB here... I've looked for LB here... and then I realize that no prospect will play either of those positions as well as Derwin James will play those positions. I'm tired of wasting Derwin's talents at split safety. I want to put him at the slot in big nickel alignments. I want to put him at LB in small nickel and dime alignments. I recognize that we've gone out and upgraded at DL so that we can be in the 4-2-5 alignment more often... so I select Bryan Cook to start at split safety and set Derwin free. After Bryan Cook, I have serious doubts that the safety class provides any Day-1 starters. I'm ecstatic about getting a Day-1 starter in the 3rd round. This is how you maximize a draft with no 2nd round selection.
4th: WR Danny Gray. This is where we start going BPA @various positions. I'm torn between CB and WR mostly. But I think the CB class is really deep... so I go WR. I remember that Derwin is going to be in the slot more. I also remember that Michael Davis is now my #4 DB... so I'm really just looking for a developmental CB to take MD's place in a year or two.
5th: CB Mario Goodrich. This CB class is deep! I see 25 guys I believe are guys that can develop into starter-quality CB's (#3 CB's). They come in so many different sizes and talents. In the end, I settle on a guy that has outside/inside capabilities, enough speed/size to survive the NFL game, and has the tools/willingness to become a good tackler. We could argue about the specific CB prospect to take in the 5th... we argue about wether they are still on the board in the 5th... but consistently, there is always a CB there that I like.
6th: EDGE Christopher Allen. Quite honestly, he may not be on the board in the 6th. I think injuries limited a very talented player's ability to show how good he can become. If he's not there, I see other sleeper talent in the 6th round @EDGE. Besides, I think Chris Rumph is already quality depth as a pass-rusher.

    From hereon, it's BPA @RB, @OC, @IDL, @LB, @TE, @P, and @IOL.

Absolutely! We talk about guys falling in the 1st round but never consider this in the 3rd and 4th rounds...?
I think we find starters and quality depth in rounds 3-5 this year. This year is deep for certain positions.
