IMHO Murphy is a bit of repetition with Bosa and Mack--big EDGE.

If Tito and/or AJ come back soon, plus we draft a DT, doesn't that push Fox towards work on the EDGE ?

I really like the element Nolan's Smith's juice brings for us, even with the apparent misfit.

Not disagreeing with you, but the Chargers don't mind repetition:

Tito vs what they had; Josh Palmer vs. what they had.

They've had too much difficulty containing the run to experiment with a 240 # guy.

Personally, I'd be intrigued if they selected Nolan Smith.

Also, I consider such things as upside, value, round one grade, Chargers fit/need for '23 and beyond.
The Athletic consensus mock still has QJ at #13 overall...dropsies considered.

Fox will not change position outside of an emergency. He was too good last year. I expect he would be in a rotation at 3T, ideally.

Murphy replacing Bosa or Mack is the point IMO. For a rest, in case of injury, to replace one in 2024.

Go to the Chargers roster on their website and see what Bosa and Mack are listed as: OLB, my guess is Nolan Smith would be listed as an OLB in Staley's D or maybe he would be placed in K9's spot he could probably be used all over the place, and he could do well stopping the 3rd down plays that have haunted us HC after HC here! Micah Parson is listed as OLB and plays all over the place but yes in the Cowboys D he is a LB. Nolan Smith would add team speed to our D which we desperately need and potentially give us something sort of like what Parson brings to the Cowboys D!

I like the idea of Nolan replacing Murray, sure looks like he could do it. Just concerned that wasn’t his position in college, and how we’ve been burn in the past wanting a first rounder to do things different from what they did in college but do them exceptionally well, and then not making that transition at all (ie Tillery). If he’s the pick at 21, then I put my trust into n Staley lol. Same as if Johnston I’d the pick, I hope like hell his drop rate gets better..

Sure you could state a case for, say, Mayer, at the opposite end of the spectrum.

There is minimal explosive athleticism, but very, very good at the catch point.
