My point about Bowers is this. He bangs around a lot, with a physical style and lots of yardage after violent contact. He is very big and very fast. Injury must be a consideration. That is my personal observation.

What do you all think...risk/reward ?
            Little concern from me.
I see a fluid athlete that understands how to use leverage and power to churn for YAC without recklessly taking unnecessary risks.
I expect him to adjust to NFL speed and power and consequently less YAC.
I would actually be more concerned about injuries if he we're taller (bigger target) and heavier (slower movement) preventing him from defending himaelf.
at 6'4" 240 combined with agility and smarts, I don't expect him to take as many hits as say a Gronkowski who later in his career was targeted by defenders once he lost a step.

              Hot take.
              Like Gronk/Aaron Hernandez.
Bowers is a roll of the dice.
We will all see how Brock does against very fast 215# NFL DBs with speed to power tackling torque.
              We play modern Harball.

                We have Slater.
                We also have Pipkins.
And a round one guard who looks like Johnny Troutman.
                And no Center.
And a tub of goo Guard who should be a Swing Tackle.

We cannot run the damn football. At all. STILL. No LT in this draft.

                Shame on you Nutty.
At the top of this draft sit two ten year day one starting offensive tackles.

Has anyone around here looked at Joe Alt video ?
                I didn't think so.
                Very long very powerful arms.
That is the start to an impressive tool set.
                Put him at ORT.
                Draft a Guard too.
                Draft/UFA Center.

Then do your jock sniffing routine while having fun fixating on midrounder highlights.

You know this is the answer.
But medicine does not taste like Nutella does it ?

                We play modern Harball.

I can't lie I really want the shiny new TE Bowers but we have gotta build this O line that TT and Staley fucked up.Our QB can't get any more broken fingers,or ribs.Protect the franchise first and foremost.Fact is we probably won't even make the POs next season so we need to be patient and build both trenches to actually compete going forward.Build this team correctly this time.

There are very good arguements for OT. Protect JH, kick off the run game, dominate los, championship depth...

But another important thing to consider, is that a Blue Chip OT is a huge COMMODITY in this league...so much value.

You keep and pay both Slater and new guy?...potential hall of fame oline next 6-10 years...

Time to pay Slater, but need the resources elsewhere? Got another LT in the chute...as leverage, and as fallback, if you need to let Slater go. You get cheaper, get a good comp pick, and still have a starting LT ready to go.

Or play new guy at RT a couple years, then trade for multiple picks to LT needy team...

OT is a pick that not only provides oline performance impact now, as well as quality OT depth, but from a Roster building standpoint, increases the overall value, or "overhead" of this team...this type of pick is how real teams should build their rosters...

Im in love with some playmakers at the top of this draft...but I am too smart of a fan to be crushed, if the pick is Joe Alt.
                    Lone Bolt's Final Mock

Sleeper day 3 pick: Tahj Brooks RB Texas Tech

Great hands, route running, and is surprisingly fast in the open field. Sign me up!

I dunno, we have a lot of talent, guys that know football and can play at a high level, on the Oline. Coaching/scheme let them down IMHO. Sure, I would replace Pipkins, but that’s not a top ten pick we need to burn on that position, not with new coaches/other players coming in.

Do we have as much talent in the TE room?

If we go OL round 1, I’ll understand, but doubt we pass on a top needed skill guy for beef, few teams would (ie if they already have a stud at that skill position, that’s when they go beef).

Relative to their top peers in their respective positions - I think BB has a notably greater separation to the top. MW has below-elite speed, he makes up for it with point of attack strength. He needs time to get open, and coupled with high pointing ability that helped him create his YPC stat. But it’s not a complete all-around WR game. MW has never separated from the top of the NFL WR class - I’ll argue he’s never even been at the top. He’s never been top 5. Even giving him top 10 would require i sharpen my pencil to figure it out.

BB has sub-4.5 speed, which is truly elite for a TE. Add he is a VERY good blocker, has very soft and strong hands, runs very good routes, runs away from LBs and many S, he is on the border of unicorn territory. The ultimate complete 3-down always on the field TE in every and all situations. People can decide TE itself is just not as valuable a position but I think the question of is BB more elite at his position than MW is at his is very clearly yes.

And I’m a MW fan, it’s ok to not be the Best in NFL or even Top 5. though I think he needs to be a cap casualty.
