Brugler is my quick shortcut to this year’s draft 😅. Even though he does have some interesting takes like the gap between MHJ and Naber being smaller than we think.

"Suamataia played in an offense that wanted to run the ball downhill — and he was happy to oblige, displaying range and initial pop as a drive blocker. He is nimble in pass protection with the strength to lock down rushers. However, his timing, technique and recognition skills are currently immature parts of his game.

Whether 5 or as far as 11 and extra picks,..... as long as we get him. I do not like trading down and down and down passing on the premium guys to have our first pic a OC. Sure good player, but we missing out on some premium players doing that. Could get a OC in round 2 or 3.

PON are Center, WR, TE, CB, Edge, DT, OG, and probably LB and safety. I would rank Center as the biggest offensive need over even TE and WR.

True, but where and how do you get your C. Hortiz needs a plan, it just won’t happen by happenstance. Getting a C is is almost as big a deal as dealing with the cap.

The bottom line is that premium players at any position beside QB are not as impactful as having 2-3 above average players. I'd love to have an all pro level player, but having 2 above average starters and maybe a third starting player will contribute more to winning.

Beyond that, it's not 100% that we get an impact player at 5 and don't get one at a lower pick. Our 4 best draft picks under Telesco were Herbert, Bosa, Slater, and James. 2 of them were top 10 picks, 2 were middle 10 picks. I'm not sure of our breakdown of pick position, but we can still find premium players later in the first.

I'd also add, because the Chiefs win everyone acts like having the TE is the cause. The offense took a huge step back after Hill moved on. The defense took a huge leap and the OL was rebuilt. That defense is now the strength of the team and the rain they won the SB this year.

He's a bigger, faster Mike Williams with more YAC ability and can play in the slot and carry the ball on jet sweeps ala Deebo.

I think it was a pretty fair assessment. No college player coming out of college is perfect and likely has a weakness they can improve upon. The weaknesses of Bowers can easily be fixed. Blocking, he can get better but the thing is he has the mentality to want to block which is huge. The Chargers could always add a bigger blocking TE for running situations or if they run 2 TE set. Chiefs do that with Kelce. Usually they have another TE in if they are running. It's why Kelce blew up with Reid. Kelce thought he should have been in on that play. Size, he can add weight in an NFL training program. Route running, also will be fixed to smooth it. He as the athletic ability with the proper coaching to make him better.

I've been saying that Bowers isn't just a TE he is a weapon and have said he would be a perfect piece for this offense. I mean seriously, can you see Herbert throwing passes to Bowers. If Herbert and Bowers can have the same chemistry as KA and Herbert the sky is the ceiling for Bowers, IMHO.

I saw a tweet this morning claiming "Charger insiders" don't think Bowers will be Top 10, and are currently favoring Nabers, Odunze, and Arnold. Take it for what it is ... a tweet claim.

I trust JH2. I think Bowers is one of several good options, not the only option. If their much more thorough and professional analyses conclude that another choice is better - lets roll.

Couple of other things about Bowers.

He's only barely 21, his 21st birthday was two months ago. The Chargers would be getting him at a very young age, which is good.

He reminds of a 1970s player, the way he looks, his face, his hair, the cut of his jib, the way he runs, etc. He's not slick or glitzy. He's a local Napa kid who grew into a TE's body.

His mother was a college softball player at Utah State, she is in the school's athletic hall of fame. His sister plays softball at Sacramento State, about a mile from me. His dad was an All Big West center for Utah State (where his parents met). Brock grew up playing football, soccer, basketball and baseball. He played football and basketball at Napa High School. He played QB as a freshman for the Junior Varsity team. He joined the Varsity team as a sophomore as a tight end. During the pandemic when he couldn't train, he stayed in shape running the hills of Napa Valley. I like Napa and the Napa Valley, I go there as often as I can. I'm not a big wine person, there's some good hiking and bicycling trails. It's a beautiful place.
