That is the comparison I have heard the most too - Herbert...Big arms, similar size, Herbert a little bigger

looking at tons and tons of tape. I love Patrick Mahomes. Been watching Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech.

The closest thing to him in this draft isn’t Caleb Williams it’s not Bo Nix.

It’s Drake Maye. The pot Belly. The throws off of platform. The Throws. The Arm Talent. Throwing across field like Brett Favre.

Some picks. The mobility the ability to put the ball down scramble and run.

If I’m the Raiders I’m moving a ton of draft capital up to draft Drake Maye.

      I hope they don’t.

But Drake Maye is a franchise Quarterback.

Looks like Mahomes. The upside guy.

Dont give me the well he will be good. Give me the upside guy.

its going Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels.

Im taking Drake Maye. Let’s throw the color lines out. This guy is the Quarterback who can throw it and run. That’s who you gotta draft.
Let's hope that Jeremiah's latest mock is correct:

In his second mock of the 2024 NFL Draft, Daniel Jeremiah has four quarterbacks selected in Round 1 -- all going within the first eight picks. Check out his full first-round projection, 1-32.
      22 - TE Mason Taylor
      55 - RB Quinshon Judkins
      86 - DL Josiah Stewart
      125 - G Dylan Fairchild
      158 - C Jake Majors
      181 - WR Donte Thornton

There is a natural Kyle Hamilton vibe here.

I like the idea of this guy with Alohi and Derwin.

The results can be exponential for our overall defense.

This dude is off our radar.
There is plenty of talk about other obvious ideas.
Let's be diligent in all rounds.

Hit me with your best shot.
I have to be honest, I haven't looked @the safeties much this year... so many other needs.
I figured Derwin would be our big nickel. I'd like to keep Gilman if the price is right. And keep hoping JT will be healthy.
The highlight tape looks like he's physical and reads quickly.

What are your thoughts on him?
        Protect the QB
        Run the ball
        Play great defense

Great prospect but I'm not ready to invest more into the position after paying James and drafting Woods, and especially in this scenario where we pay to retain Alohi
At least not with our 2nd round pick.
If we go defense in round 2, a DB I have my eye on at 37 is Kamari Lassiter from Georgia, the best pure Zone CB in the draft as I expect to play almost exclusively in zone with heavy on cover 3.

I mention Nubin specifically because of Kyle Hamilton. Last year at the Combine, DROY had disappointing speed. Nubin looks very similar. He plays fast.
            We play modern Harball.

Wood, with the Cover-3 that Minter usually runs, it calls for two safeties near the LOS and one deep FS...so, I see Derwin and Alohi playing SS near LOS...but who is our deep FS? We absolutely need a speedy, shifty FS who can cover a lot of ground quickly to close in on any wideout who breaks free deep...I don't feel Gilman has the top end speed and fluidity to do that...saw him get burned last season too many times...now, if you're looking for top end speed, Javon Bullard (4.5) might be the man. Decent tackler also. Tykee Smith (4.5) might work also.

Nubin's 4.6 40 time is just a shade slower than those guys, but does have some elite processing skills and great closing speed. But we absolutely need someone with processing skills, quickness, ability to change direction and to close quickly for that deep free safety spot. I'd be happy with any of those three guys, but if we address IOL and IDL with our first two picks, we're probably gonna need an extra second rounder to land one of those three safeties, hence the need for a trade down from #5...

                Good points.

There is huge variance on Nubin with pundits.
                Everything from KC @ #32 to round 4 !

I have a sneaking suspicion that @ #37 is where we trade down for multi picks.
                We play modern Harball.

Agree, but it's just too much money at stake with a poor showing or the chance of injury (no matter how small) for some of the top tier guys. Guys with something to prove can move up up with a good showing.

Well we have a guy who played extremely well in college as a safety who could cover large areas, really fast to the ball, in Woods. If he’s (finally) up to NFL speed with his reads, then we got it covered and CB1 becomes our biggest need in the D backfield. Lassiter sounds good to me.

D backfield, OL, IDL, these are the position groups where we have drafted a lot of guys to “develop” that haven’t yet, and it’s really hurt us. Hopefully the new coaches are looking at tape, talking to these young men, getting a sense of where they’re at and how far they can get them to go. This type of analysis is what’s gonna determine our draft/FA strategy. Us, we won’t know how it all comes together, for better or worse, till September. Trust the MFIC and his minions.

When I watched Minter's defense, I really liked S Rod Moore. He decided to stay in school. He did a lot of things for Minter... the way Derwin will do for him this year. The other safeties, while solid, weren't anything special IMO. Jesse Minter likes to create triangles in coverage... usually with a CB, safety, and LB. I think his OLB's will have to be able to cover. It looks like he expects more from his OLB's than his safeties. What do you guys think of AJ Finley and ERFA Raheem Layne...?

Has anyone looked at later round safeties?

What can a guy like Marvin Harrison prove - especially running the 40 yard dash - could pull a hamstring? Harrison, Nabers, Alt - all of them have tape.

Now the interview portion, I think is important. And of course the impromptu meetings between agents and teams at St. Elmos - the teams talking - of course, not tampering, just "talking" wink wink
