There was more to the question than his answer implies. He was asked about our receivers and picking 5th.
Ozzie told him to "get a great player. You always want to get a great player" so he said you always want to have good depth if one of the players goes down, one can step right in.
That said, Bowers is a great player so I can see us trading down as well. Just saying the question came with more than how he answered it in that quote.

Allbright echoes the same comments about McCarthy. Allbright has McCarthy ranked with Daniels and Maye; he has Caleb by himself. So thats good for the Chargers. If the first three are gone, and somebody likes McCarthy - Chargers can trade back. If McCarthy gets into that top 6 category - Chargers could be sitting pretty. Allbright and Zierlein talking to the same people perhaps .

Well we have a guy who played extremely well in college as a safety who could cover large areas, really fast to the ball, in Woods. If he’s (finally) up to NFL speed with his reads, then we got it covered and CB1 becomes our biggest need in the D backfield. Lassiter sounds good to me.

D backfield, OL, IDL, these are the position groups where we have drafted a lot of guys to “develop” that haven’t yet, and it’s really hurt us. Hopefully the new coaches are looking at tape, talking to these young men, getting a sense of where they’re at and how far they can get them to go. This type of analysis is what’s gonna determine our draft/FA strategy. Us, we won’t know how it all comes together, for better or worse, till September. Trust the MFIC and his minions.

Woods does have the top end speed, but how about his tackling?

I think we look at the build and say Mahomes backyard football.

Mahomes could play in any offense including air aide.

the difference is Mcnab I say Mcnab because he played in Andy Reid’s offense and no one talks about him. He was a pro bowler.

I think the difference is Mahomes is elite.

From Jameis Winston we always said who’s the guy. Winston had character issues and it always seemed to follow him off the field. But tape don’t lie. He was clumsy at Florida State and he has been clumsy in the NFL.

Stafford always had a fucking arm. Goff didn’t need Mcvay.

So looking at these guys. Kyler Murray is small and being small affects his NFL play when you have to make those throws in tight windows.

Allen has an elite arm but still makes dumb mistakes and accuracy throws still affect him like the AFC divisional against Kansas City.

Rodgers was a prick at CAL but was a baller you could see that in his first game or first game I saw him against USC when he came off the bench and won for Cal.


I was very concerned with Caleb in the USC game against Notre Dame at Notre Dame. It wasn’t just on his team. But he had trouble making adjustments throws seeing the field.

These same issues came up to end the season when he just looked bad against UCLA and the Washington game second half. He was good but fizzled out in the fourth Quarter.

I really like the kid but there’s a little Hollywood milk the moment type of stuff with him. And it’s a little different. I don’t know how that’s gonna rub teammates. A little diaper Kyler Murray to him. One moment he’ll be getting his lineman and teammates together on the sideline rallying the troops then the next moment he will be sitting on the bench away from players moving his lips like an individual.

is this about Caleb or team. Mahomes is all team. Brady was all team. I knew Herbert was all team at Oregon.

People talked so much shit about Herbert at Oregon and then spoke glowingly about Luck at Stanford and nobody talked about Luck not really liking the game and the kid retired in his prime. He could do anything he’s that smart.

But Herbert got a raw deal. What I like about Herbert he’ll play with broken ribs bad thumb. That’s where I saw the Brady in him and not a lot of people have that.

Getting back to Maye he’s 6-4” he makes dumb plays but Mahomes made dumb plays at Texas Tech. They tore up Mahomes footwork at Texas Tech. They are tearing up Mayes footwork at UNC. But this tape I’ve seen on Maye his ability to throw the ball. You can’t teach that shit.

Yeah he’s a Matthew Stafford where they won’t win a national championship but you see the elite Arm Strength.

Jayden Daniels looks skinny to me. Another Michael Vick no. More like a Lamar Jackson RGIII Robert Griffith the third.

Caleb’s gonna be great. He’s got mobility arm talent. I think he’s more controlled than Justin Fields. He’s Baker Mayfield with athleticism. Another Lincoln Riley Quarterback. I like his lower frame. But he’s gonna have some issues when teams disguise defense and When he’s gotta throw from the pocket. He will have issues when his first read isn’t there. Hes gonna have issues when he has to lineup under center and can’t lineup in Shotgun in the spread. That’s the difference with Mahomes he can lineup in anything under the center or in the spread or in the shotgun. Same thing with Herbert and the greats. Burrow.

Caleb is going to be jumping out trying to run and scramble Kyler does that.

I see the Maye Herbert comparisons they have that same throwing motion.

The funny thing to me is a team actually took Tua over Herbert.

Shit if you look at Trubiskys tape in College at UNC I see more Chase Daniel then Patrick Mahomes.
