2024 Chargers Draft Superthread - Prospect Discussion - Draft Has Started

This is kinda my thing... All these amazing skill position players that are going to "likely" have amazing careers and we want an OT which will play RT with the #5 pick??? That's some AJ level incompetence...

Incompetence is spending 5 on a pick that will have to be shoehorned into a WR room with Slayer, Palmer, and Q...get rid of one of those 2 vets who are both really good, or give up on Q and trade him for whatever scraps you can get...then Im interested. Otherwise you arent addressing a need, which you need to do when you have a lot of them.

Bottom line...maybe OT isnt their choice either...until I see what they do with player retention, cuts, adds...hard to say what they do....but why blow a 5 on a guy who will be splitting snaps with 3 other players?

If a player like Marvin Harrison Jr. falls to you at #5, you take him. It's a no-brainer. You don't have to shoe-horn him in, he's your top WR from day one. He's not going to be splitting snaps with three other guys. You fill out the rest of your WR depth chart based on Marvin Harrision Jr. being your #1.

Brock Bowers is elite. He will be elite at his posiition. When Travis Kelce retires he will be the best tight end in football. He’s the next one. He’s a hall of famer. He’s a gold jacket. All pro. He’s not OJ Howard. He’s better than Dalton Kincaid.

You want elite at position.

Malike Nabers and Romeo Oudunzie will be elite at thier posistions. They will be the new WRs Oudunzie did all his drills and crushed them. No corner can stay with Nabers. This is the draft where you’ll have an AJ Green and a Julio Jones in it.

and we haven’t even mentioned Marvin Harrison Jr. so when talking about elite and the pick of 5 that’s blue chippers and you have blue chippers in this draft.

I know we have needs but one of these players can make our team perennial contenders.

This is why you are not a GM.
You don't trade back or up just to trade. Don't put yourself into a hole and stay there. You have to be flexible, especially if you have a certain target in mind. IF your target can be acquired at #8 just as easily at # 5, and your team has a lot of holes, then you trade down. AND still get your guy.
Chargers help to their guns on the ELI and Rivers trade down and were able to get their guy and picks.

1-Is this for real or just media talk?
2-Pierce way want to would up but how many times has TT moved up that much in the past? It would cost a lot and Raiders also have a lot of holes.
3- Everyone would love one of these top 3 QB's but not all of them can get them. Top 3 teams really need a QB so it would have to be a ransom haul to move down from a real team need with 3 real good prospects. Right now, I can't see it.

Definitely. If a team is willing to offer some enticing draft compensation for the Chargers' #5 pick, by all means yes you trade down. This draft class is deep at WR, not necessarily MHJ talent, but worth the trade down for sure. If the Chargers traded down just a few spots to get an extra 2nd and/or 3rd in this draft, and were still able to draft Nabers or Odunze or Bowers, I'd do that for sure. But if #5 rolls around and the Chargers haven't traded down and nobody is making enticing offers to move up, and MHJ is still on the board, it's a no-brainer, they're gonna draft MfreakinHJ.

This is going to depend on FA. Chicago will stay put. Washington likely stays put. But NE, who knows? For arguments sake let's say NE lands
one of Wilson, Fields or Cousins in FA. Now the possibility of a trade down exists. While TT has never made that big a move, he is known for
trading up. Can't remember if he ever traded down. Not his motto for sure.

Another possibility exists since after the big three there is still McCarthy, Nix and Penix. Probably would not have to move up as much to land
one of those guys. Then again maybe it's the Raiders that land one of the FA QBs.

To early to say but the speculation is surely there. There are about 10 teams that need a franchise QB. Going to be a very interesting draft.
