I suspect both our guard take a big step forward this year. What we do at center, by far the weakest sport on the line, will be interesting.

most of the pressure came from inside the tackles, not LT or RT. There was a lot of simple failure to pick up defensive stunts and blitzes, hand off assignments to pick up another guy coming … it was almost as if our guys were not coached as well as the defenses they faced.

Pipkins 2022 gave up 2 sacks. he’s not pro bowl but I still tend to think the largest net increase in talent is at a different position and the entire OL will play better with better coaching and just one new OC. Salyer is also a candidate for RT, he didn’t excel at RG (he graded lower than Pipkins, for ex) so maybe thats not the spot for him and they will compete for RT in camp.

However, if they take their bookend RT, thats ok with me. Trust in JH2, the Roman Empire shall rise up again!

it's posted by I don't know how many people with stats to back it up and everything else, first and foremost our center and guard play was far worse than our tackle play in 2023, on top of that our tackles were put in more fucked up situations than most in the NFL, poor scheme, bad coaching, etc...

but some people around here don't want to hear that shit, they just want to get rid of a certain player that everyone here knows I was also heavily invested in getting rid of myself, but you have to appreciate what's happened since and not get stuck in the past, Yeah Trey is never going to be an All-Pro, but he doesn't need to be in order for this O-line to be one of the better units in the NFL...

I trust this staff and if they decide to move on from Trey I'm going to believe it's for some good reason I know nothing about AND if they decide to roll with Trey then I'll also trust that they have a plan to either maximize what he can do and minimize his exposure, plus perhaps put a plan in place to replace him...

A QB. 4 QBs could go with the first 4 picks.

Same applies to the draft. GM go overboard when it comes to QBs. Other positions not so much.
Simply not true. Teams have been pillaged that have moved up for other positions other than QB.

The interior OL was really impacted by Linsley going to IR.
However, Pipkins was still the worst OL on the team.
Horrible at run blocking. And avg at pass block with the awful turnstile whiff block snap on late game drive. Swing tackle at best.

Chargers need a Center and Tackle. And versatile OL depth.

              Joe Alt is clear upgrade.

I think a veteran center would be good use of free agency.
And also drafting a center Rd 4-5 if there is a good one still on the board would be really smart.

If Chargers draft 2-3OL and 2-3DL/Edge with half of the draft picks, I would be just fine seeing the invest in the front lines.

Jim Harbaugh knows how to stand up a team to compete. He and Joe knows it all starts with trenchwork.

Roman said can you imagine Herbert with a great run game.

You are not creating a better run game by drafting Nabers or Bowers.

And for those of you who think they have a great HC now, so the players will naturally be better..... That is a giant LOL. Did you not see Andy Reid dump the Cheetah and heavily invest in OL and then win back to back Superbowl. Well why not keep Cheetah and just improve the OL with your great coaching Andy. Why draft Mahomes, why not have you great coaching elevate Alex Smith? Because Andy knows it's a players game. Andy has a history of investing in the trenches on both sides of ball with Eagles and Chiefs. And he has had many deep playoff runs to title game and SBs.

You don't draft according to how you think OTHER teams will draft...u draft based on how to best build your OWN team...Trader Joe and DeCosta had a solid record with the Ravens...whether he stays @#5 or trades down, I think he'll make the right choice, in consultation with Harbo, Roman, Minter and the rest of the staff...based on past history, I'm guessing Trader Joe will trade down for picks...a LOT of holes to fill...

Yep...Trader Joe can still trade down and get a decent OT later on...though I think our top priority on O-line is C...

I'm hoping they bring in a vet FA Center. I would feel better with experience at Center vs rookie.

Not a bad idea...but our experience with FA's has been spotty...a lot of busts and injury busts...how about this: Bring in a FA C at a team-friendly price and ALSO draft a C...we need QUALITY DEPTH at C and the rest of O-line...don't want to go into the season with scrub backups like Clapp and Jaimes...

We need to run the ball better no doubt and that should be a combination of talent at RB, better OL play and better design. But if the idea is that we're going to be a running team then they have made an investment in the QB position that is unnecessary and negatively impacts the rest of the team. They'd be better off trading Herbert and getting a rookie Qb and then trading him before that first contract is up. Imagine the haul of picks for Herbert. You can have all the OL you want in that scenario and some key DL and FA players. Like SF.
