As of now, Alt is almost universally the most highly regarded player likely available when the Chargers select at #5. He would be a badass tone-setter who run blocks as well as he pass blocks. The Chargers would be set at tackle for the next 12 years. He’d be a good first selection for a new GM & coach wanting to show these aren’t the Chargers of Telesco.
And With The 5th Pick Of The NFL Draft Chargers Select....Discussion

I would love some RB's that can actually run well. I don't care about their size or weight just very good tough and strong runners with the ball. Has to be more than just one good one.Originally posted by Boltx View Post
So this highlights an excellent point - with Ekeler likely gone, who is going to lead our rushing attack? I assume it'll be a committee, but who will be in it?

If they stay at 5 and dare take a pass catcher, it sure as hell better be Bowers. He'll have an impact in both the passing AND running game. Kids a beast. We haven't had a skill player like that since......Gates?
Sitting at 5 is a really good place to be. There are so many teams looking for QB upgrades, we'll most likely get overwhelmed with offers. And I trust the new GM/HC will make the decision that best capitalizes that asset( as long as the dumbass owners feckless son isn't involved in any in that decision making)

Of the RB's currently rostered, the only one I'd even think of brining back is Kelley. Dude still hits the hole really hard, not that there are many holes but when there is, he's our best.Originally posted by Whydachargers? View Post

Trading down really seems like the smart move for us. We need so much...a couple TE's that block well and catch, at least two tough RB's that run hard (and fast) every play, O-line (a Center is a mandatory draft need), D-line additions that can get some push, WR's that catch the ball and run for good YAC, I can see us adding at least four new WR's to the roster. I don't see Mike Williams staying around. We could get high picks for Williams. There are good WR's still around at round 4 or even 5. Wicks from Green Bay is one of those WR's this season (5th round pick in 2023) that I would love to have drafted in the 4th round.Originally posted by WindsorUK View PostIf they stay at 5 and dare take a pass catcher, it sure as hell better be Bowers. This was my thought process exactly. Pick 1 is going QB whether Chicago stays or goes. Zona is a lock for MHjr IMHO, putting us in the first spot for these QB horny teams to jump. During the showcase games and the combine, we always see QB's just jump up the board because people want to believe that they can draft a franchise QB. That hype is going to work in our favor in 2024, let's see if we take the jump or not.Originally posted by sequoia2075 View Post
My absolute ideal scenario is the Falcons trading in to our spot from #8 to take whoever the 4th QB is. In that scenario, I'm assuming picks #1-#3 are QB's, and the Cards take MHJ. That would leave us with at least one of Bowers, Nabers, or Alt with pick #8, and we'd likely pick up an additional 2nd and 3rd rounder in the process at the very least.
I think its semi-realistic too, as I can see teams potentially wanting to get in front of New York for a QB.

Maybe get a 2 and 4 for those three spots - I might do something like that. As seriously, the Chargers are not one player away. But the trade would truly have to be an overpay. None of this well the chart says its worth a 3rd and a 5th - it needs to be a friggin overpay.

Dillon Johnson or Donovan Edwards in the 4th. Moves, Power and decent speed.Originally posted by WindsorUK View Post

Yes, thats the kind of overpay talking about. It would really have to be worth it. Chargers would have three picks in the top 40 and 6 picks in the top 100 or so. That might be something.Originally posted by La Costa Boy View Post

But I just looked at the point chart and the variance between 5 and 8 is 300 - so basically the equivalent value is the 3rd and 4th round. To me, that is not enough. It would need to be a second rounder and like you said - a day 3 pick in 2025.

I would be fine with that. But then you basically have to go and get a bad-ass WR in FA — like Ayuk. And then hope you find a couple of gems in R2-5 for a TE and a RB. And you still prob need another quality WR (assuming we lose Mike Williams).Originally posted by Vaportrail View PostAs of now, Alt is almost universally the most highly regarded player likely available when the Chargers select at #5. I agree that protecting Herbert is priority #1. But 1a has to be getting him some more big-time threats.
