Bowers is a weapon first... TE second, he is more than the average TE, he is versatile with more YAC than the average TE. Like a receiving weapon for Herbert that can block.
Sometimes when a special playmaker is sitting there and you have the rare opportunity to get him you have to act. Why the Lions didn't care about positional draft charts when they used the 12th pick on a RB. They saw a special playmaker in Gibbs that could elevate their offense and they grabbed him.
You cant fill every hole on the Chargers in one draft, it will take 2-3. There will be lots of OL and CBs to pick from the next couple of years. There are good ones in every single draft. There wont be another Brock Bowers.
You are so right my man. Spoken like a true genius. Brock is a playmaker. You know like in basketball they have positionless basketball Curry is a point guard but he’s just a player. Bowers can play any position and be successful.
We can use him as a running back. With the tight end position being so big like it is today. You gotta have one of these guys.
imagine Bowers against a linebacker. He’s destroying him. He runs tremendous routes.
Marinate on this. It’s goal line. You have Keenan Allen on one side Brock Bowers at tight end and Quentin Johnston with Darius Davis out the backfield. We’re are you going with the ball if you’re Herbert?
what does the defense do? It really makes the defense scared because you don’t know where they’re going.
- In 2020, the most common guess was QB. They took Herbert.
- In 2021, the most common guess was LT. They took Slater
- In 2022, the most common guess was G. They took Zion
- In 2023, the most common guess was WR. They took QJ
In 2024, it seems Nabers is most frequently “mocked” to the Bolts, with Bowers a close 2nd. I would love either. But I’m not so sure. Those previous 4 years, it was so much easier to guess (although I thought it would be Flowers over QJ). With new mgmt this year, I honestly have no clue. If Telesco were still around, easy - Johnny Wilson 😉
So what do folks think Harbaugh will do at #5?
My admittedly wild guess - either Joe Alt, or trade down for Fuaga (best run blocker)
Reasoning:
- Harbaugh is all about controlling the LOS.
- Slater is up for a new deal in ‘25. Of course they’ll keep him, but he’ll be expensive.
- Pip is also up for a new deal in ‘25. At this point, he is who he is - below avg run blocker, okay in pass pro (when not facing a premier edge). Doesn’t seem like a Harbaugh fit, but who knows.
- Plug n play OTs are hard to find outside the first 15 picks. And hopefully, they’ll be picking outside the first 15 in ‘25.
Im sure! Bowers, Bowers, Bowers! We have NO TEs.
We can get trenches after that. Not to mention if we get a couple extra picks, however,, by trades or trading down, we can get a WR, LB....whatever. If this were Telesco we wouldnt get any extra picks because he sux but we got a new sheriff in town.

We can get trenches in every draft known to man.
How about we secure our Kelce for the next 10 years before the Broncos do at 12 and we have to watch that for another decade just as Kelce nears retirement
If Bowers is going to be the pick, I'd really try to find a trade down partner somewhere before pick ~14 if at all possible. A lot of the teams behind us in that range have glaring needs at positions where there are highly rated players slated to be available, and I kind of doubt any of them would go with a TE. If we can get our guy while picking up a couple of Day 2 picks in the process, that would be an absolute homerun.
We finally have the best GM/HC talent evaluators in the history of the Chargers and some are still anxious over who they will draft.
I say put it on autopilot because you can be assured they know how to rebuild this team far better than you do.
If they choose Bowers, than fine. If they don’t, then fine. I have 100% confidence they understand what to do far greater than any fan.
Saying who Harbaugh should draft is like telling Elon Musk how to build a rocket.
Bill Belichick knows how to rebuild the Patriots way better than I do, but I still think bringing in Matt Patricia and Joe Judge to handle the offense is a bad idea. One of us will be wrong. We'll have to wait and see.
Bowers may be awesome and Harbaugh and Hortiz may be the best talent evaluators we have had. But everyone, even the goat is not infallible. I may be very wrong about Bowers, the OTs, and Nabers. No one is infallible, especially me. But how soon we forget "In Staley we Trust" was a mantra around here for a solid 2 years.

Spot on, I hate trading away a sure thing weapon like Bowers for Quintin Johnson and a few other journeyman players.
Bowers is about where he goes. Brock Bowers going to the L.A. chargers with Justin Herbert is gonna be perfect for him. He will have success. Rookie of the year stats. Like Kincaid going to the bills with Allen. The offense with Harbaugh will be built around great tight end play. So a lot of our emphasis is we see him going to our team we are like yeah this is where the players talent will be maximized.

If we draft Bowers what happens to Parham? Parham doesn't fit the Harbaugh mold.
