Who's got the better chance of putting up 1000 yards or lets say 7 TDs? Only 1 TE did either of those last year. 27 WRs did the first and 26 WRs did the 2nd. NFL teams don't use a TE as much as they do WRs. If you're looking to maximize on field impact for the same pick the WR is the way to go.
Unfortunately, the issue with our WRs is cap and health related. MW is probably a cap casualty and KA will need a replacement in the next couple years (if QJ had a better year 1 we'd have better options.).
You're not wrong...
The elite WR's are just better at stretching the field, too.
The bigger point everyone is missing... when KA is on the field, he's probably getting the ball. He just gets open... quicker than anyone.
Imagine QJ and Rome split wide (opposite sides)... KA and Joshua Palmer in opposite slots... LOL! Good luck!!!
Having said that, we have the #2 and #3 defenses in the Super Bowl.
And the only reason the #1 defense isn't in... they couldn't score against the #2 defense... even with 2 very good TE's (Andrews/Likely) and four former 1st round WR's on the field....
Kelce as amazing as he is doesn't have the best physique, the pipes are a little wiry. Bowers is more muscular, so he is a powerful 240 and breaks tackles
pipes vs natural god given strength,...IDK, kelce rarely fumbles, the guy is strong as hell, but he's built were it counts, muscular ass and legs, it's were he gets his power...

but the guy cuts and changes direction like a much smaller man which helps him create separation...besides, 4.6 is pretty good for someone his size...

The bigger point you are missing that in Harbaughs offense the TE is the #2 wr. Plus Harbaugh is pretty high on QJ and I'm pretty sure he will have him playing right this year. I would be surprised if they even pick a wr in this years draft.
Time to put my money where my mouth is: Hampton will be better than Jeanty!
this would require them pushing money into 2025, I'm for just ripping off the band aide, at this point we have QJ, DD, and JP...it's not a bad starting point if we can get QJ coached up and JP to stay on the field, I also feel that DD has more potential than just returning kicks...draft another WR in the mid rounds and maybe bring back guyton on a vet minimum deal because of his familiarity with Herbert, but I feel it's time to move on from KA and MW and you end up with a healthy cap situation in 2025 to lock up Slater and other young guys that'll be up next year...I'd rather make sure JP stays a charger for another 4-5 years than to keep KA for another season...get the draft capital and move forward...

I don't see Guyton back -- Erickson would be a better WR
As for the draft pick Bowers or trade back - thats it. If Bowers is there, I think JH2 take him -- unless they are overwhelmed with a trade down offer
Hortiz has spent his entire football life learning the GM business from a legendary TE and on a team that features a dominant TE...I just can't see them passing on Bowers at pick #5, with KA, Ekeler, and MW all potentially gone, they need to give Herbert another go to guy that can help fill that receiving threat void...

Yes, the caveat is an overwhelming offer for somebody to move up. So throw away the points chart as that doesn't apply. Have to consider all options - but if Bowers is on the board and no really good trade options, run that pick up there and hear Goodell say "With the 5th pick of 2024 NFL draft, the Chargers select, Brock Bowers, TE, University of Georgia"

#5 is alive for the Chargers, the last two times that the chargers had the 5th overall pick, they drafted a first ballot HOF player, Junior Seau and Ladanian Tomlinson...

I dont think Keenan is leaving but we'll see. Harbaugh called him a pros pro. Keenan if he really wants to stay will do something with his contract for the team.
