Immaturity and heavy duty partying are the last qualities I want in a qb.
Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel has apologized to the Aggies' coaching staff and is being advised to be honest about what led to his much-discussed departure this past weekend from the Manning Passing Academy, a source told ESPN.
The Heisman Trophy winner did not finish his scheduled stay as a college coach/counselor at the camp at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La., because he missed assigned meetings and practice sessions, citing dehydration and illness. He apologized privately to camp officials for being unable to fulfill his commitment.
According to some Internet reports, Manziel was sent home by Archie Manning because of "partying," although ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that camp officials were adamant those reports were inaccurate.
ESPN NFL Insider Chris Mortensen says that Johnny Manziel was advised to leave the Manning Passing Academy because he didn't meet his obligations as a camp counselor.
Manziel, who is scheduled to speak at SEC media days Wednesday, was "very upset" as he headed home from the academy and has privately conceded that he needs to continue to mature, the source said. He is preparing for an anticipated difficult line of questioning at media days. The turnout of media is expected to number around 1,200.
Manziel prepared diligently before his speech and media availability at the Heisman Trophy ceremony, and he's planned the same heading into the SEC appearance, according to sources.
Among those who have advised him are university coaching staff and media and public relations specialists. Manziel has been told to anticipate and prepare for a circus-like atmosphere and off-the-wall questions that have become commonplace at the event.
The 20-year-old sophomore has made numerous headlines this offseason through his social media accounts, destinations he has traveled to and celebrities he has encountered. On Monday, he pleaded guilty to a charge that he failed to identify himself to police and saw the remaining charges against him dismissed during a hearing stemming from his arrest in June 2012.Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
The Wasted Decade is done.
Build Back Better.

I agree. Hes raised red flags off the field for me. The other concern after watching his spring game a month ago was his passes seem so soft. Even the short stuff stayed up for a while. Very little zip. Not sure he has the arm strength. I wanted to see him as another Russel Wilson type but RW has a rocket. I had questioned his ability to go through progressions and he actually looked really good in the spring game going through the WRs. Of course its just spring but locking onto a wr is something you see alot out of freshman qbs. I love his confidence and running ability but his arm strength and questionable off the field behavior is a little to much for me to get behind.

I don't care if he pisses off the Mannings. To me, the big thing is he is preparing to be a pro QB, and Manziel is a guy who could have benefited from the extra work and he blew it.
But, if you were going to put your franchise into the hands of a young QB, would you want to do it with a guy like Manziel?

He plays with good power and leverage, which is why he is such a great player. He doesn't just run past OT to get sacks, which is why he is giving college OT fits. If they are fast enough to handle him outside, he can still come back inside. And most of the guys who can anchor against him, can keep up with him on the edge. He is just a lot further along then most college pass rushers are at any point in their careers, and he is just a sophmore and his technique can still get a lot better.
