He can obviously run the ball. He can also return kicks. Can he catch the ball? I'd LOVE to have Penny. If we got him in the first round I'd be mighty fine with it.

Yes I would like another back. Absolutely no F’N way do I want to spend another first rd pick on a RB. They are a commodity and excellent backs can and are found every draft in rds 3-5. Having that much cap tied up in the RB position would be terrible cap management IMO.

I would literally vomit if the chargers draft another rb in the first round

If we got him in the 2nd round I'd be overjoyed.

Doubt we trade up for Mayfield giving up a bunch of picks.. Regardless of draft sites, he isn't going in the second round, he will go top 15. I'm thinking we are playoff bound unless we suffer big injuries. Penny I don't care about.Last edited by Boltjolt; 12-10-2017, 08:56 PM.

Success in college is one thing, but it often takes different skills to be a great player in the NFL.
Heisman snubs...... the guys who get snubbed often end up being much better pro players.
Baker Mayfield has some mechanical and decision-making issues that I wonder about. He would be a much better pro prospect if he didn't hang out all day in the pocket and then wait for his receivers to get open.
Penny is not the prototype for the Heisman that I think college Heisman voters go for. But I think he can be a reasonably high draft pick. The big things he has are prototype size and he comes from a pro-style offense. He is not a great pass protector but is asked to chip block a fair bit. He can catch, run and run with power. He lacks some of the straight line speed that leads to dominance in college, but I don't think pro coaches care as much about that because it doesn't translate as much to the NFL. He has enough speed, and he has some power to run through bad tackles.
That being said, it depends on when I could get him if I drafted him. I think there are plenty of good RB out there. It is a matter of finding one and then giving them some confidence. A good OL gets an average or better RB into a flow so they can hit the holes at full speed. With college teams de-emphasizing the running game, I think there are some good RB around if you look. If we have other position to address, then going for a RB early may just not be in the cards.

Agree, I wouldnt use a high pick on Penny either and don't think he will be a high pick. Maybe a third but I'd pass there too. I'm thinking he will be a 4th-5th. He is bigger than Pumphrey but Pumphrey excelled in this offense/conference too being as small as he was.

Clemons sucks. The Bolts have a young team that looks playoff worthy next year. Do we really want to go into next year without a backup qb that has a chance to win games for us if Rivers goes down? Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
