Based purely on tape study, NFL Films' Greg Cosell believes Georgia RB Todd Gurley is "the best back in the draft."
We agree wholeheartedly. "I like Gurley more (than Melvin Gordon)," Cosell said. "Gurley, to me, has elements of Steven Jackson in his prime and Marshawn Lynch. He's that kind of runner. He's got an excellent combination of size, power, short-area quickness and burst, and top-end acceleration. I like Gurley a lot. And he looks like an NFL foundation back. I think he can be the starting point of an NFL offense." If Gurley's ACL looks recovered at next month's Combine medical recheck, he should have a chance to be a first-round pick.

I wont dispute that about Gurley. I love the kid. But using a 1st on a player coming off an injury concerns me. But id do it. Gordon is just a perfect fit for the blocking scheme we use. We would need to make adjustments on the OL for Gurleys running style. Id love either of the 2 RBs. Id be shocked if Gurley was ready by the start of the season.

Also keep in mind while Cosell was going over the pass rushers he admitted he hasnt watched a lot of film on the players and yet came off sounding like his analysis was set. Which concerned me as a big fan of Cosell. At least he was honest.

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State had 16 former football players work out in front of 20 National Football League (NFL) Scouts Thursday morning in its annual Pro Day.

In all, scouts from the Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, Seattle Seahawks, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans and Washington Redskins were in attendance.

Participating in this year's Pro Day event included defensive back La'Ron Bennett, punter Jaron Bentrude, wide receiver Ronald Butler, placekicker Nick Diaz, running back Joe Hill, defensive end B.J. Larsen, defensive back Rashard Stewart, safety Brian Suite, safety Frankie Sutera, offensive lineman Bill Vavau, linebacker Zach Vigil and offensive lineman Kevin Whimpey.

Former USU players in defensive back Quinton Byrd, linebacker Jake Doughty, running back Robert Marshall and wide receiver Travis Reynolds also participated in the drills along with several former Southern Utah and Weber State players.

Pro Day began in the ICON Sports Performance Center, where players had their height, weight and wing span measured, followed by performance tests in the broad jump, vertical jump and bench press.

The remaining drills were performed in Utah State's San Laub Indoor Practice Facility, where players were timed in the 40-yard dash, shuttle run and three-cone pro agility run, along with other on-field tests.

Highlighting Thursday's action was Hill who ran a 4.26 40-yard dash, while Suite clocked in a with a time of 4.45. Butler had a time of 4.50, Stewart ran a 4.59, Bentrude ran a 4.61, Sutera ran a 4.64, Vigil ran a 4.66 and Larsen clocked in with a time of 4.82.

Suite had the best vertical jump during the day with a leap of 37.5", while Bentrude jumped 36.5". In the broad jump, Suite again had the best mark with a jump of 10'2", while Hill recorded a jump of 9'8".

Whimpey recorded the top mark on the 225-pound bench press with 39 reps, while Vigil had 26 reps and Vavau finished with 25.

"It was fun," said Vigil on his Pro Day experience. "You always wish you could've done a little bit better, but I'm happy with the training I got done and I'm very appreciative to the scouts who came out here to watch us today. That just shows you that Utah State is finally getting out there because we had like 18 scouts here today, so that's good. It's good for the program.

"I just need to continue to become more explosive and quicker, have better footwork, and keep working on my hips. Obviously, the study of the game is always very important. If you want to be successful in the NFL for a long time, I've been told you've got to be a student of the game and understand all your weaknesses, and try to improve and make them strengths."

Players will now wait for the NFL Draft, which will take place Thursday through Saturday, April 30 - May 2 at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University in Chicago. Round one is on Thursday, April 30. Rounds two and three will be on Friday, May 1 and round four through seven will be on Saturday, May 2.

Loving this kid. If you watched the WRs at the combine most struggled adjusting to the outside deep ball. Ball awareness and body control. This kid is pretty amazing.

Had him in some early mocks of mine in the 4th round. But he pulled a Moncrief and skyrocketed.

Dolphins S Jimmy Wilson visiting Chargers
Dolphins safety Jimmy Wilson is visiting the San Diego Chargers today, according to a NFL source. Wilson, who started as the slot defensive back in the Dolphins’ nickel defense last season, would be a costly, but not unexpected, loss.

Wilson, a seventh-round pick in 2011, blossomed into a key member of the team both in the seondary and on special teams. Last season he made 13 starts and had 58 tackles, one interception and three passes defended. In 2013, he made three starts and had 39 tackles, two interceptions and five passes defended.

If Wilson stays with the Dolphins he becomes a candidate to start at safety alongside Reshad Jones and in place of Louis Delmas, last year’s starter who is a free agent and coming off a knee injury. And Wilson would likely retain his spot as the starter in the nickel defense.

But Wilson, who earned $555,555 last year, is likely to land a multi-year contract on the open market that more than doubles last year’s salary. He also has the ability to play cornerback, which makes him a valued defensive back.

The Dolphins likely expect Wilson to depart and are talking to safeties during free agency. There’s a chance Delmas, the 27-year-old seventh-year player who earned $2.25 million last season on a one-year deal, returns next season as the starting safety.

However, with Wilson browsing and Delmas also on the market, the Dolphins are making plans to fill their safety and nickel positions. And they're also looking for a starting cornerback opposite Brent Grimes.

If he's that good, why is MIA letting him go. He's pretty cheap to keep.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
                    Let’s win one for Mack.

03/12/15 - Taking three tests immediately after a tiring workout isn't ideal, but former Rutgers wide receiver Andrew Turzilli wasn't complaining on Wednesday. Turzilli impressed at Rutgers' pro day with his speed and receiving ability causing NFL scouts to want to get to know the 6-foot-4, 190-pounder better. So a representative from the Jets asked Turzilli to take the Wonderlic test. Then a Packers scout had Turzilli take a personality test and another test to see how quickly he could learn a playbook. "I wish I didn't have to take it after I worked out. I was kind of fried," Turzilli said. "But I did my best on it. It was fine." Turzilli's 4.44-second 40-yard dash, which was the fastest time at pro day, warranted the closer inspection from the scouts. The Butler native also showed good quickness, with the fastest 3-cone drill and the second-fastest 20-yard shuttle.
Turzilli showed the big-play ability last season that NFL teams covet. He had a 93-yard touchdown catch against Tulane, which stands as the longest offensive play in High Point Solutions Stadium history, and an 80-yard touchdown against Michigan. "He's got the ability to make big plays," Rutgers coach Kyle Flood said. "Now, he's got to get into a situation where he can show that he can do it on a consistent basis. I have no doubt that he can. I thought he looked great today. I feel strongly he's going to be with an NFL team next preseason and then he's going to have to work his way into the right situation." There should be more potential opportunities for Turzilli after his strong showing at pro day. "I feel like just give me an opportunity and I'll make the most of it," Turzilli said. "I've always been confident in myself and my abilities. I played in two of the best conferences in the country. I feel like I have the talent. I just need the opportunity." - Dan Duggan, NJ.com
