                I doubt it was us, unless he turned down an earlier offer from us, and had to settle for less when the offers dried up.

                  If any other team offered Phillips a contract, it probably the Jets. They, and the donkeys, seem fascinated with the old talent on the Chargers.

                    Dielman took less over the life of the contract but the Chargers offered more over the first 3 years.

                        And your point is? He still took less to stay with a contender (at the time). Call it a "home town discount" or loyalty or whatever. He had more money waiting on him in Seattle and he signed in SD.
