If the Chargers move to LA, the Raiders will eye San Diego. Then we can all off ourselves.

The whole LA stadium thing still doesn't make sense.

Who is going to build Spanos a stadium without wanting a part of the team? And Spanos doesn't want to sell.

Don't the Rams own an option to build near Hollywood Park? Couldn't another team partner with them and have two tenants?

The Rams are the only team that has the ability to start building a stadium

Chargers and raiders Need public money no matter what city.

Once again acee is writing an opinion piece with nothing new to offer

Another report to scare tax payers into building the Chargers a new stadium.

If you're going to move, Spanos, quit hiding behind the local media, and just fucking move. Then my mind will be freed from thinking about your shady business 7 days per week.

In other words, shit or get out of the scat room.

exactly right- and why I am really tired of the Chicken Little Sky-Is-Falling crap these UT hacks keep trotting out there. All these "articles" do is piss off and motivate the Hater crowd that want the team gone and will try to skew any vote to fail. This false urgency based on what other teams can do is ridiculous and has nothing to do with the Chargers trying to get a deal done in San Diego. Remember, it has taken multiple public votes after initial failures in AZ, Min, SF and other towns before they got a winning proposal. Besides the facts LA doesn't WANT a transplant team and won't support one according to polls and the citizens of Pasadena have forbid an NFL Franchise locating to the Rose Bowl even temporarily, none of the Spanos family wants to LIVE in LA and you really think employees of the team like John and AG want to commute to their office in LA every day? Pffftttt. Who in their right mind would back up the moving vans to play in the run down Coliseum for a couple years and give up part ownership just to be the 1st team in LA? Nobody that's who. Existing local Chargers fans are not going to flock to LA for Training Camp or games either as the failed Carson TC experiment demonstrated.

here's a key new point from the article above (assuming ANY of the points Acee cites are actually true)...

"There is no NFL stadium in L.A., and plan after plan for one has fizzled. However, politicians there keep working to get a deal in place and several possibilities exist. The NFL has even floated the idea of building the stadium and leasing it to teams. Very few doubt anymore that the league's return to Los Angeles is anything more than a matter of time."

EVERY single proposal in LA has tanked from Carson to Irwindale to Downtown LA- no matter who or how much $ is backing it (Roski, Anschutz, etc.). Now if the NFL decides it will start building stadiums and leasing to teams instead of just loaning $200 Mil towards deals- why can't they build 1 in San Diego for the Chargers while still trying to find a workable solution in LA?

its not Spanos trotting this shit out there- or it would come from his official mouthpiece Fibiani. This is just the local hacks @ UT trying to stir shit up for clicks on the website and to try to still be relevant.

Union Tribune is pro business. The last, and possibly only, U-T sports writer who dared question the Spanoses' business intentions as it relates to sucking up taxpayer dollars was canned. Long live Tim Sullivan.

If the Spanoses wanted this constant threat of a move to be stopped, they would have said something 20 years ago - or any time since then. They don't want the negative public relations, so they don't say they are threatening to move if the taxpayers don't build a stadium for them. And they don't want to actually stop threatening the taxpayers. They just have the Union Tribune do their dirty work for them.

EXACTLY. Get 'er done NFL. It's your next great revenue stream. Own the building and rent it out to not only NFL teams but soccer teams, colleges, motocross, etc...
                    Prediction:
                    Correct: Chargers CI fails miserably.
Fail: Team stays in San Diego until their lease runs out in 2020. (without getting new deal done by then) .
Sig Bet WIN: The Chargers will file for relocation on January 15.

"Mr. Spanos," Fouts said, "has his own pet reporters he bounces things off."

Spanos has to keep the threat of moving lurking in the background or eventually nothing will ever get done but I think it's pretty clear that they've said numerous times that they want to stay in San Diego and get a new stadium deal done here.
