I'm trying to get this straight, as to why he would go so far as to shoot and murder this man.

They were out together, evidently several times over the past two weeks.

And then on the Friday previous, the victim had some "interaction" with a "group of people" that Hernandez "had a beef with".

???

I'm really confused.

Either:
A. Hernandez is a borderline psychopath, killing someone for basically not being 'loyal' or something OR
B. There is something seriously wrong and/or illegal going on between Hernandez's 'group' and this 'other' group.

What would drive someone to kill someone simply for hanging out, or associating with the wrong group of people?
