    Raiders Coaching Candidates

I saw this on the scolling ticker last week.... Raiders plan to interview Eric Mangini and Pat Shurmur for the HC job. Both were recent failures fired by the Cleveland Browns. Mangini was also a lousy head coach for the Jets. Maybe the Raiders don't hire either of these guys, but them even being on the interview list gives me tremendous hope that Mark Davis will truly continue Evil Al's legacy. Maybe the Raiders will miss out on all the hot candidates again (I was kind of fearful they might get Harbaugh but that ship sailed) and one experienced head coach will emerge from the ashes. Someone to give hope to all non-Raider fans out there. Norval Turner.

Good candidates will think twice about working for the Raiders and will likely walk away. But losers like Mangini, Shurmur and Turner will jump at the chance.

what is notable is the coaches that DIDN"T interview...I'm sure they contacted all of the hot coaching prospects Bevell, Dan Quinn, Rex Ryan, Todd bowles etc.... and were told "no thanks". reminds me of when my Raider coworker was bummed that Whisenhunt turned down the HC position to take the Cards job. I had to remind him it was worse than that, he turned down the "interview" for the position . LOL

No one goes to Oakland unless they are drafted, traded or desperate

Mike Shanahan interviewed with Raiders, Bills

Time might be able to heal all wounds after all.

Dianna Marie Russini of NBC Washington reports that Mike Shanahan has interviewed for the Raiders head coaching job a little more than 25 years after he was fired as the team’s head coach after 20 games on the job. Adam Schefter of ESPN adds that Shanahan met with Raiders owner Mark Davis and other team officials.

Schefter also passes along Shanahan’s confirmation that he interviewed with the Bills over the weekend. He’s also spoken to the 49ers.

Shanahan and the late Raiders owner/icon Al Davis had an awful relationship during Shanahan’s brief time with the team and things didn’t thaw out over the years with both men throwing the occasional barb at the other one. Or the occasional football. Former NFL quarterback Elvis Grbac said that Shanahan told him to throw a ball at Davis during pregame warmups when Shanahan and Grbac were with the 49ers in 1994, which illustrates how strange it is to see Shanahan talking to the Raiders about working together.

Shanahan said last month that he’s interested in coaching again and indicated that he’d only come back to a team that’s ready to win. The Raiders don’t appear to qualify based on their 2014 record, although quarterback Derek Carr’s rookie season is one reason for the Raiders to hope that winning isn’t too far away in Oakland.

Shanahan may feel the same way, which could make for one of the most unexpected reunions in football history.

That would make the Raiders the dirtiest team in football again.
I see no end to our injury problems if Shanarat comes back to the AFC West.

I'm with you Rat...I really believe that hiring Shanahan would be dumber than keeping Sporano.........he would be perfect for developing Carr, look at his last two projects: Cutler/ RG 3

The Rat in Oakland would be like Jack Tatum was coaching them.

Id rather not see Mangini as a HC for the Raiders...He could make them better. His HC career as a Brown is a wash and he took the Jets to the Playoffs one season, Then they got bitten by the QB injury bug.

He's not the scrub your makeup no him sound like.

Madden was in the interviews with the Rat. I'm not sure if John has control over his faculties, but at least Lloyd Christmas Davis is getting counsel from someone with old skool 'duh cred.
