It's hard to judge a guy by one bad play call and Lynn gets just as much blame for not overruling it since he did mention he listens to and offered input on play calls. I'm not saying keep Steichen, but again, we don't know what Lynn asked him to do.

Lynn: What defense do you see? Should we run or pass?

        Steichen: What? Pass?

Lynn: "What" ain't no defense I've ever heard of. They blitz in What Defense?

        Steichen: What? Pass?

Lynn: English, fool, do you speak it?

        Steichen: Yes! Yes!...but Pass?

Lynn: Then you know what I'm sayin'!

        Steichen: Yes!

Lynn: Describe what the Defense looks like!

        Steichen: What? Pass?

Lynn: Say 'Pass' again. Say 'Pass' again, I dare you, I double dare you fool, say pass one more Goddamn time!

Two games in a row, not just one play call. If we disect all the play calls, there will be several that werent good. No doubt Steichen will learn and get better but i prefer he does that elsewhere.

I'm okay with this, but still have trouble trying to figure out how much influence Lynn had into things - I suspect a lot. In the end, I'm guessing we have almost an entirely new staff.

That's part of your situational game plan. Created by the OC and evaluated/approved by the HC. You shouldn't be thinking at that point in the game. You honestly shouldn't even need to look at the play sheet. This should be practiced enough to become second nature. All of these guys are pain millions. Be professionals. Be prepared. Steichen made a horrible call, but it's on Lynn if the team wasn't ready to go in that situation.

Gus is a pretty solid DC, but what I saw the last two seasons was an inability to make adjustments.

They'd look good for a half, and then fall apart.

A LOT of those close losses the last 2 years were because they would allow late game drives.

He did have to deal with considerable injury problems on the defensive side.

I'd normally wish him well, but he went to the Raiders, so Piss Off.
                :smh:

Right....and it didnt help that Ramsey said they ran the same defense every week and Mel saying they dont adjust, they just do their thing.

                    This is my dream offseason.

We lose Lynn as our head coach.

We lose Gus as our DC.

I PLEADED for both to happen.

Gus goes to the Raiders with his predictable, nonadjustable defensive schemes and calls.

                    It just keeps getting better!

Seriously though, I too have to count my blessings, I promise myself to stay positive because those two things happened.
I look at the texans, jets and eagle organizations and suddenly my sports life doesn’t look too bad.
