And isn't the center the leader of the Oline? That's gotta be tough when u go through 5 or 6 of them....at one point I think when Legursky came in Rivers was screaming out the line calls

Depends on what you mean by leader.
Usually the C is the guy who makes the OL adjustments. All OL can make a call to the guy next to them (switch), and if you watch you can see them chatter back and forth, identifying the fronts, and who is considered big on big and who is second level or in the secondary.
Only the C or QB can call and change the blocking assignments for the whole line, say to adjust for a blitz. And the key part of that is for the C to identify the blitzers. It is actually pretty tough for a C to see the LB and DB when he is down in his stance, so adjusting for all of the possible places for them to blitz can be a challenge. , Then there is just matching all the possible adjustments with each plays vs each possible D. And then the QB can call an audible, so the whole thing can start over again prior to the snap. It's not like it is brain surgery, just that it happens pretty quick and you don't really have time to think about it, you just have to do it as fast as the D does it, because they like to move around and stem their alignment too prior to the snap.
Rivers was making the line calls at one point. The QB always makes some of the calls, but I think Rivers was making all the calls, except for the individual adjustments between the C and OG. Then if the whole thing needed to be changed, Rivers would make the major adjustment. I think they stopped it later on after he got hurt, because Rivers had a lot on his plate already, and to some degree, since the QB can change the play, he really can avoid some of the really bad blocking mismatches.Last edited by Steve; 01-19-2015, 10:18 PM.

The way I look at it is, Reich was dealt a very tough hand with the offensive line and running back injuries. When you hire a guy you're already familiar with, you have to at least give it a reasonable amount of time to allow that person time to adjust and get into a groove. 1 season with an injury depleted offense isn't enough. So unless the guy you hired is just completely inept, it's reasonable to bring them back. As a GM, you would be doing the organization a disservice if you are constantly firing guys. You would never make any progress that way.

For all those with their panties in a knot over our OC. About 1/4 of the league doesn't have one, can't' find one, and are blocked from hiring anyone they find interesting.

I'd take any of those choices over Reich.Last edited by RollingThunder; 01-21-2015, 06:02 AM.

Chargers should rehire Clarence "Sheldon" Shelmon, name him offensive coordinator, and let Reich call the plays! Worked for Norv...err, sort of. Kind of? Maybe not.

You really want Chud? You want the Norv Turner offense back? Because that is what he runs.
Gase runs the McCoy offense (and who knows what tweaks and controls Peyton added to it to make it go). We already have the McCoy offense and I really wonder how good Gase will be without Manning to call all the plays at the line. McCoy had some experience pre-Peyton Manning. Not sure if Gase has much?
I was impressed with the Chargers offense early. Then after about 6 games it went downhill. Injury related? Don't know. But I think Reich demonstrated he can do it. But for some reason it didn't last too long.
