Absolutely they have. Even with Fouts, who is not the easiest guy to get along with. Appears he is mellowing with age, but for you younger guys, he was a piece of work. Great QB. Fierce competitor. Tough player. Not so nice off the field.

If they recognize Phil at a game I may have to go to that. It’s funny I’ve been dead wrong on our QBs I wanted Brees over Rivers and hated the Herbert draft pick. Like Justin Philip quickly won me over and his spats with Cutler were good times.

Someone asked in another thread does Herbert make it easier to get over Rivers or something like that. My answer is yes. I love Rivers but IMO we may have actually improved at the QB position. That and I like that Justin stays pretty even emotionally whereas we all know Phil could get a little over hyped sometimes.

I think people forget just how good Rivers was from 2008 - 2014.

Chargers were 3 - 9 with Herbert until the final 3 meaningless games of the season.
Of course it wasn't his fault, he played great and the team let him down;
but Rivers played his entire career with that type of crap happening....
he had to play perfect football for the team to win.

In 2013, he took a 5 - 11 type team to the playoffs...and was a few plays away from getting them to the AFC championship game.

I'm not sure how much it was emotions kicking in vs him feeling that he needed to try and win games by himself and forcing things. Add in some pretty mediocre coaching and a crappy offensive line and you have what you saw.

Yup. Peyton Manning was also fiery and emotional. Though probably not as hilariously animated.

I haven’t forgotten and was not happy that Rivers was leaving. Herbert completely changed my perspective and the fact that Rivers retired after one year with the Colts tells me that yeah it really was ending.

I hope Rivers signs those papers soon.......being that he'll retire as a champion after we win the SuperBowl and all.

A few years too late in my opinion but much respect to one of the best Chargers QB's ever.
