Is anyone else concerned that TL weighs 213#? 6’6”/213# (Kobe Bryant/Jordan) is an NBA shooting guard not an NFL QB.
Im interested to see what the Jags do with him.

He is going to be very, very good. It's not a contest - they'll both be good QBs.
I think it *is* a contest. Every team wants to be the best, and that involves securing the best players, coaching and scheme. And I'm sure Herbert wants to be the best of his generation, and if at all possible, the best in history. He's likely too modest to ever talk much about it, but any player wants that.

He is a very skinny dude, esp. for a guy who did a fair bit in the run game. Herbert carries over 20 lbs more....is listed at 236 lb.

The defense has so little talent to stop him. Too easy.

Take nothing away from Lawrence, but how can you really grade him when he's on a Battleship and the other team is a tugboat? And the same issue torpedoes our assessment of most quarterbacks. Top QB draft picks are usually in superior situations, cruise missiles bombing bunny rabbits. They make it look easy because the supporting cast, coaching and system they landed in... make it easy.

We don't have that cloud with Herbert. We've seen what he does against NFL defenses. We know he's just as big as Lawrence with a similar cannon arm, and runs similarly well. Justin squared off against the best in the world in the Major League...and walked away with Rookie-of-The-Year.

Which brings us to this: If you put a gun to my head right now, how would I rate the odds of ultimate success for Herbert and Lawrence? Who will be the best quarterback?

It is close, but I'd choose Herbert. And this week I'll explain why.

Go ahead, Jags, and get you some. Lick it up. Enjoy the party. But your cherished child won't be as good as Justin.
Lawrence has yet to prove he's the best pro quarterback of his own class (neither has Herbert ...yet) never mind the class before him. He may very well work out to be, but that's not a guaranteed thing yet. Let's see how he plays on Sundays when the talent level is a whole lot more even League wide. He's never had to anticipate and throw into tight windows, let alone while under duress.

Of course every team wants to be the best, but that is not my point. Herbert is talented, smart, works hard, has a great attitude and his teammates love him. Supposedly the same things are said about Lawrence who has also won a lot more than Herbert. He was on a much better team so that can certainly explain it but Lawrence will be very, very good. We are ecstatic with our guy and his fans will be ecstatic about their guy.

Doesn't matter whether your drafted #1 or #6... it only matter how much ownership is fawning all over you after your 3rd season. Just ask Mahomes... LOL!

When Herbert got hit by the KC defender and said defender didn't get right back up....pretty sure TL would've got lit up.

They talked about his weight a bit during his pro day. Supposedly he dropped about 10 pounds in the offseason because he was unable to work out before his surgery. He was already a skinny dude, so dropping 10 pounds is pretty noticeable. Herbert definitely has a bigger frame which helps with the hits.

Lawrence is not going to have the same sort of supporting cast around him that Herbert had around him.

Sure, Herbert didn't have much of an OL, but neither does Jacksonville.

And our WR are a lot better than Jacksonville's. Eifert is a good TE when he is healthy, but that is pretty rare, which is why he is in Jacksonville.

Herbert is technically more sound, mentally more competitive otherwise similar in size and breakaway speed.

Herbert has been proven - Lawrence has not been on the NFL field yet...

Herbert seems to want to improve, which is excellent for player...

Besides, he is a Chargers fan. I bet he will do more for our team...

I would not trade him for any other QB...

We got our man, let's build around him!!!

We know the character, intelligence and aptitude of Herbert and the sky is the limit on him. Granted its based off 1 year of data but we know far more now about him than on draft day 2020....far far more. Nothing's guaranteed either he will continue as he did last year but there isn't anything that makes me think JH had bad tendencies that defenses are going to expose.

I wouldn't take that risk of a trade even if we got an extra 1. Build around JH with a real pass protecting and run blocking line and see how far this takes us....oh yah....get the defense fixed too....its really why we lost most games last year.
Jeff George was the next amazing QB. He was above average at times but that was it.
