By not quieting the rumors Rivers has fed into them. That is both disappointing and surprising.

Waiting for what? If the Chargers go to LA they franchise him anyway. This is stupid, whining about going up the road 3 hrs.

He is holding his team hostage by waiting, doesn't sound like a team guy with this move.

If the team moves to LA he may choose to retire rather than move, even if we tag him. More than one person (his good friend Nick Hardwick included) have come out and said they don't think he would move to LA. So how is that stupid?

If he would retire for a silly reason like that then forget a legacy, zero chance at the hall of fame.

HIs new nickname would be "petty" Rivers if true.

Some people don't think putting your family first is a silly reason.

Give me a break, he is a multi-millionaire. Feel sorry for those that have real struggles. Cry me a river.

Staying in the NFL would help his family. If I was his son someday I would ask, Dad did you quit because you didn't want to go to work three hours away.

Football players are retiring early for different reasons these days so I don't see what's so silly if Rivers decides to retire because he doesn't want to move to LA and maybe he just wants to get out before he sustains more injuries.

Who said to feel sorry for him? I find it hard to blame a guy for not wanting to either live away from your young kids for most of the year or uproot them and move them to a place he doesn't want to raise them at. He has made enough for both he and his kids to be set for life so he has the luxury of making a decision based on what is best for his family.

I'd say " no son I quit because LA is a shitehole and I didn't want you to have to grow up there and hate me for the rest of your life"

I would argue his legacy is what is best for his family. I am not an NFL QB but I imagine during an NFL season he does not get to spend much time with his family anyway so a move to LA would not change that during an NFL season. Being away from your family has little to do with the quality of being a father, disagree, then talk to some of the military fathers that surround you in San Diego that have to often be separated from their families. Finishing something to completion, showing a commitment to something you believe in are strong examples to send to children. Money is not everything and Rivers is a role model.

If he would leave due to health concerns or anything similar I would have a completely different opinion. If that was the case he should leave now and not when the Chargers go to LA.
