You know I don't see it as offensive either but evidently there are some folks of Native American heritage that do. Must be.

I would have loved to have seen a nation-wide poll where the Native Americans could have freely conveyed their thoughts. Do they see a welcome tribute or something unwanted? Funny that we never got anything like that, only chosen spokespeople.

I don't know...don't have any real idea what a poll like that would have revealed. We'll certainly never know. Some (mostly) white people felt they needed to make that decision to declare it a certain way.... which really adds just another ugly patronizing chapter....

Without getting into the political issues involved, and purely from a factual standpoint, it has been reported that there have been multiple polls taken over time among Native Americans that have consistently shown that approximately 9 Native Americans in 10 do not consider the team name Redskins to be offensive.

Other Native American inspired names are fine. Chiefs, Braves, even tribe names (such as my beloved Aztecs). Nothing wrong there. But denoting your team is native Americans by calling out the color of their skin is just not cool in 2021. This one is fucking easy for me. I don’t care what anyone else thinks or says, its black and white, or should I say red and white?

Even though it is somewhat racist in modern viewing eyes the term Redskin really is synonymous with tough fighting warrior. I consider the term more of a slang term than an extreme derogatory term. Just call them the Washington Warriors and be done with it. I guess in this day in age if we're going to name after a cultural group we now need their express approval.
