You would end up with something like the LA Coliseum.
Yeah, but if we can attract a professional track and field team we could hold their meets simultaneously with Charger games. I would expect the discus, shot put and javelin to make things really entertaining.

      Yup. It's sad.

Not only would the stadium be much bigger than we would need for the Chargers the fact you will have a track around it puts people too far from the field. I did a little drawing to illustrate this. The dimensions are correct:

Why does that stadium have to host track and field?

Great idea. Why build one stadium when you can build two for the price of two?

Not my suggestion. But the reality of the Olympics is that they usually build multiple venues even in cities that already have them. So there's that.

            Cool drafting project, though.

Put the track OUTSIDE the stands!

With "outside the box" thinking, we can do this! The San Diego Roadrunners and the Chargers can share a new stadium!
              Prediction:
              Correct: Chargers CI fails miserably.
Fail: Team stays in San Diego until their lease runs out in 2020. (without getting new deal done by then) .
Sig Bet WIN: The Chargers will file for relocation on January 15.

And then charge people to be let outside so they can watch the track meet... brilliant!

That's the problem, we would need to build things that would go largely unused afterwards. I read the previous San Diego Olympics bid proposal and they wanted to build 3 large sports arenas while also expanding Viejas. Now if we were sure to get both an NBA and NHL team right after the Olympics then you could almost justify that. But then there is a huge swim complex to build as well as at least one new stadium that wouldn't quite work out for football afterwards (some soccer events would be held in LA). Then you have to make some major improvements for the equestrian events as well as building a new velodrome. The Olympic village was slated for the Q site and that was reportedly to be turned over to SDSU and USD for student housing. I don't think all that could be done for $3B. I don't think it can be done for less than double that.

They can watch track and TAILGATE at the same time. Who wouldn't want to do that?

Now that's an idea I would support.

Olympic tracks are very specific. This proposal would result in the 1500 being one lap around the track....LOL

I don't know why they even run 1500 meters anymore, they only actually race for 400 of those.
