Side note to the story. The orthopedic surgeon we are going to use is backlogged and cannot get her in until September 4th (though we are on the top of the list if someone cancels or has to reschedule). My daughter is begging us to see if we can find another doctor covered under our insurance so she can get it done sooner and could make it back for at least part of her high school season. We were talking about this with her high school coach at a soccer camp this week and she asked us: "Have you looked into using Dr Chao? You know, the one who used to be the Chargers team doctor? I know a whole bunch of people who used him for their knees and they all had good things to say about him." Another parent was nearby listening and piped up with "I would never consider using that guy - we had a terrible experience with him operating on my daughter's knee and I heard he is barred from most of the local hospitals now."

    I'll pass!
Smart move......hopefully your daughter is as patient as you are.

My daughter patient? Hahahaha! She is begging me to find another orthopedic surgeon so she can have the surgery and get back playing the back end of her high school season.

Call and see if he takes your insurance.
He did my knee, and I highly recommend him.
Thanks for the name - I'll check him out.

I never played soccer so this is a serious question...How are these knee injuries happening? Is it through contact with other girls or is it the turf? Something else?

In her case it was planting her foot on turf and it just popped as her leg torqued. Ironically, she finally had her surgery yesterday. Took 9 freaking weeks to get insurance approval and the surgeon to be available. 3 weeks of it was the insurance company literally transposed 2 digits on her date of birth in the system and couldn't fix it to get approval!

Surgery went fine, but she is in a lot of pain. Tough to see your kid suffering.

That's got to be really sad. On the plus end this is probably one of the last times she'll let you baby her.

She is on Norco. The hard part is she is a tough kid, so for her to be showing so much pain is pretty rough and Dad can't do anything to fix it like I can most things.

I guess the doc could always put her on something stronger if the level of pain doesn't subside soon.

Percocet, oxycodone, morphine, dilaudid, demerol, oxycontin, or fentanyl maybe.
