Okay, which one of you was this?

    David Schofield
@UTKevinAcee if they go, do they keep the name? Been a "charger" fan since 1961. I refuse to support the L.A. smog or whatever name

If they are in L.A., they will be the Los Angeles Chargers.

I grew up and still live in PA. So SD, LA, Alaska, Hawaii.....whatever....Im a Charger fan. If I lived in SD
area I would probably feel differently about it.

By look at the very small sampling (1) I am very surprised and (2) This may be just what the Spani' are hoping for...

If they have their supposed "25%" already up there, and you add that they 'could' possibly retain 50% of their fan base, that is 75% right there... They can easily grab another 25% with a successful season or two. This blows my theory right out of the water. In defense of the Chargers, why wouldn't they leave? If they have numbers that say they will retain about 1/2 of their fan base, add in whatever percentage is in the greater LA area, and then new fans, they are essentially a wash w/in a few seasons.

To hell w/the family succession issue, they will be billionaires soon.

I may live in Pasadena but like hell will I go to Carson or Inglewood to see any football game. I know were I'm not welcome in LA...

I do think many of those who will continue to follow the team are not close enough to go to a game in LA. If so the 50% may be more like 25% (of the current San Diego residents who would spend $$$ to go to Carson or Inglewood. LA Live might, might be a destination I would consider, however I still doubt I would pay $$$ to see a football game in person in this anthill.

Were you there for the opening kickoff? Didn't they run it in for a TD?

Eventually, I think I would. Not 100% certain though, but most likely.

Yes, Paul Lowe as I remember... The most exciting football game I'd seen up to that point in my life... Instant fan forever!
They had training camp in Orange that year and I had just gotten my first drivers license. Lived nearby and drove down to watch practice. They gave out some free tickets to try to put a crowd in the coliseum. I was lucky enough to get some and went with friends to the game.

NFL football is all a fantasy mirage at any rate. We cheer for our team as if it were truly a group of hometown heroes instead of highly paid, drafted from wherever mercenaries. They may come to be "hometown" like Rivers and others who become involved in the city but except for Seau who else can you feel the pride of homegrown for.
It seems so silly to me that anyone would drop their fandom because of this potential move. They were the LA Chargers before they were San Diego. San Diego does not have "birth rights" to them.
I am a fan of the good vs evil (Chargers Raiders) aspect. Hadl, Alworth, "The Goast", Speedy Duncan and many, many more through the years. There is an evolution of players but it's still the good guys against the bad guys drama on Sunday no matter what city.

I really have no idea how I'll react if they move. I hate the idea that they are moving to LA, and I really don't think LA will support them; especially in the down years, which this organization has plenty of. I don't live in SD anymore, and though I would love to move back, I know it won't be anytime soon. What I would really hate to lose is this forum. It's a place that I have long come to in order to get my football fix and maintain my connection with SD. I suppose I could join the Bolts forum or something, but this is what I'm really going to hate to lose. I've got a lot of affection for all of you guys, even though I've never met any of you, except for Stinky, and I didn't know him as Stinky back then. He was just another dude that worked at the Chart House. I would really hate to lose the connection with all of you. So mojo to the Bolts staying in San Diego and mojo to Dean Spanos being forced to sell the Bolts to an owner who cares about the city and its fans.

Agreed about this forum. I won't join another. This is the one place for me. Fleet and company did a great job here and I'll miss this place and you guys.

I don't agree about LA, though, as I know exactly how I'll react: the NFL won't get from me one more dime nor a second more of my time.
Well.. you can at least see the croutons in the dark.

Should we start a San Diego Chargers fan 12 step program now, or after the season?

                          (Humor I hope.)
