Nobody is entitled to anything, that is true. But we're entitled to be fans on our terms. People here have had the Chargers for over 50 years. They mean something to this community as part of our fabric, as part of this community. So maybe you can understand why folks wouldn't follow them north.

Not if you lived here.Originally posted by 8/6/1960 View Post50 years of fandom for the team is NOT silly but making it only for the city is.
If you can't understand that, then I'll just have to believe that you're viewpoint is not only silly, but severely blind and misinformed.

Yeah, you certainly don't understand. That much is true.Originally posted by 8/6/1960 View PostI followed them south and listened to static on the radio to catch what I could of the games... I'm a Chargers fan regardless and while I do understand your desire to keep them close I can not understand abandoning that because of geography.

I wasn't born here, nor do I think I own the team. However, I chose to live here, leaving my hometown almost 36 years ago to move to the San Diego area. When I got here, I immersed myself in the area; the climate, the activities, the sports teams, etc. I was a NY Giants fan for many years, but abandoned that allegiance when I moved to my chosen city. Like I said, San Diego was my new home and I wanted to take in all that it had to offer, which included rooting for the local teams.Originally posted by 8/6/1960 View PostYou were born there so you think you own the team.
So I really feel the opposite about this. I can't imagine rooting for a team that plays in a city in which I don't reside. I realize that in this day and age it's much easier to root long distance, given how connected the world is now. But even that doesn't matter to me. I live in San Diego; I do stuff in San Diego; I care about San Diego.
Not Los Angeles; or St Louis; or New York; or Timbuktu. San Diego. Once they are no longer the San Diego Chargers, they are dead to me. To each his/her own. There is no "right" answer to this. Simply a preference.
