Looks the same as last year. Reich never gave him a consistent chance. He only got the ball 15 times in three games and 20 times in only one game. Reich either quit on the run or he used Brown instead - both reasons I wish we had a different offensive playcaller.

People in here kept saying that Oliver got tired after a good start, but I don't think that was true. He just stopped getting the ball consistently enough to have an impact. A lot of runningbacks, or just running teams, need the ball consistently. The linemen need the reps run blocking and the back needs the reps.

      2014 Rookie Evaluation:
      1. Verret - MIA.
      2. Attaochu - Solid enough. Good pressure.
      3. Watt - Have not liked him in the past, but he was very, very solid this game. +1
      5. Carrethers - Adequate on DL so far.

I'd say 1 all-pro, 2 guys who might some day get there, and a solid vet. 2014 success is based on injury concerns.

9 guys in two drafts by Telesco. Not freaking bad at all.

      2013
      1. Fluker - Looked pretty damn mean last night at OG.
      2. Te'o - Meh. Filler guy for years. Still has chance to step up. Here's a rookie that looked lost when he came in (tentative). Compare him to this year's guys who mostly proactive in their reads.
      3. Keenan Allen - Great rookie year. Solid pro. Don't think he'll reach next level to all-pro.
      4. Steve Williams - Just a guy
      5. Tourek Williams - Just a guy
      6. Sorenson - boot him already.

So 3 solid guys in Telesco's first draft - making the total for three years at 12, or 4 per year. Several all-pro candidates too.

tl;dr - Cupboard is filling up after years of misses by AJ.
      Prediction:
      Correct: Chargers CI fails miserably.
Fail: Team stays in San Diego until their lease runs out in 2020. (without getting new deal done by then) .
Sig Bet WIN: The Chargers will file for relocation on January 15.

Add in the UDFA's and I'd say your at 5/year.
        Go Rivers!

Other than Allen for a year and Fluker, none of the draft picks have been healthy enough to help us. Allen stayed healthy for a year and was great; then he got hurt and the coaches took too long to sit him. Fluker has been not-so-great - better than our previous right tackle, but still shaky. Now it looks like he's not even playing tackle anymore so maybe the coaching staff felt Fluker was worse than I thought. Hopefully he pulls a Clary and is a better guard than a tackle.

. BO was the star of the game to me. That TD was LaDanianesque. He also had that new backwards/sidesways stutterstep. He needs to get a lot of touches too. Is 38 in a walking boot today.

Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
            Let’s win one for Mack.

TT has definitely filled the cupboard, and nice work by the coaches (how many teams have a good starting caliber UDFA RB?).

Steve Williams is playing for his job, IMO. I'm putting him down as a high probability cut.

The thing is that in the past you will often see guys come out and play better after the first game. The point of preseason is to give younger players a chance to get real reps and get some playing time. Not as nice as the real thing, but close. Let the whole preseason play out and see how things go.

That being said, Williams only had the 1 play where he seemed like he wasn't pretty tentative. Most of the time he did his very best Derek Cox imitation, mirror the WR, get in position, then let him catch the pass without reacting. He needs to break on the passes and make a play, or at least contest the pass.

I agree about Oliver..... I liked that little tidbit about him hanging out with Woodhead and family during the offseason

Watching the game again you can see on our very first play theres a huge hole for Gordon on the left side he would have gashed hard on. Fluker whiffs his man and Gordon gets hit in the back having to try and make something out of nothing. Fluker makes that block Gordon is off to the races on his very first carry. Bummer i would have liked to see that.

I don't expect Gordon will do as well as Ryan Mathews did when Mathews was healthy. Not that I know anything about Gordon in particular; I'm just assuming nobody will do as well as Mathews did the last two seasons making yards behind what was pretty crappy run blocking. What I do expect from Gordon that Mathews was unable to provide us is to show up healthy for the entire post season.

I stop short of comparing a rookie to a vet... Look to Oliver's first year Mathews first 16 games... Or LTs rookie year for comparison.
