If they were going to cut Brown, it would be this week. We are on the hook for his whole salary after week1, so there is not much value in cutting him after that.

As far as the other 3 PS spots, there are often good guys teams want to keep that get cut after the first week or 2, as teams scramble to find injury replacements and then cut the fringe players to make room.

They have added Sorensen and TE Alex Bayer (formerly with Rams). The latter is not signed yet, but in route to SD. 1 spot left.

I expect a solid commitment to running the ball and especially with Rivers under Center. I expect a return the the play action pass and I hope the pass to Gordon in the flats or on screens a few times at least.
          Go Rivers!

Looks like Fluker is going to go back to RT.

I saw that on my chargers app. I though it was interesting that they have Watts as Franklin's backup. Since he's suspended, like Gates (who is also on that list), I think its just an error.

Nope. They have Troutman listed as 1st RG- and he's out indefinitely recovering from a broken arm. I don't see them shuffling the OL any time soon unless injury or total suckage occurs.

SAN DIEGO -- Developing more depth and younger talent across the board was a point of emphasis for San Diego Chargers general manager Tom Telesco this offseason and in training camp. Mission accomplished.

The Chargers have just seven players 30 years of age or older on this year’s final roster, and just one on the defensive side of the ball -- safety Eric Weddle (30 years old).

At the end of last season, the Chargers had one of the oldest rosters in the NFL -- an average age of 27.3, with 14 players 30 years of age or older.

This year, the average age of San Diego’s current roster is 26.3, with seven players 30 years of age or older.

Two years ago, the Chargers had two starters along the offensive line over 30 years old or older center Nick Hardwick and guard Jeromey Clary. This season, the Chargers start the regular season without a single player 30 years of age or older on the offensive line. Left tackle King Dunlap turns 30 years old on Sept. 14.

Young and lean up front defensively: Not a single player on San Diego’s depth chart on the front seven is 30 years old. The oldest are 28 years old – defensive lineman Ricardo Mathews and Mitch Unrein and inside linebacker Kavell Conner.

The Chargers will count on energy guy Ricardo Mathews and rookie Darius Philon to push the pocket in passing situations, while Sean Lissemore and Ryan Carrethers will be used to play physical and stout against the run.

Chargers defensive line coach Don Johnson said being better against the run and generating more of a pass rusher were two areas of focus during training camp.

“We have to be more consistent against the run,” Johnson said. “Statistically, it didn’t look good. And then we have to get after the quarterback -- being more active with the pass rush and being more disruptive in the passing game.”

Burwell a player to watch: One player who was somewhat of a surprise to make the final roster is undrafted rookie free agent Tyreek Burwell. The 23-year-old out of Cincinnati has mostly worked at left tackle with backups in game and practices. But at 6-foot-5 and 305 pounds, Burwell has nimble feet in pass protection, and has the ability to kick inside and play guard. It’s obvious the Chargers were concerned about losing Burwell on waivers if they tried to sneak him onto the practice squad.

Brown still on the roster: Running back Donald Brown and his $3 million base salary likely remains on the 53-man roster for a couple reasons. First, offensive coordinator Frank Reich trusts Brown on third down and in critical situations to make the right decision. Second, the 28-year-old provides insurance should rookie Melvin Gordon suffer an injury or struggle making the transition to the NFL. Brown has looked more athletic and healthier in his second season with the Chargers.

Addae the likely starter, but Wilson will play: It appears that third-year pro Jahleel Addae has won the strong safety job. Addae did not play in the final preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers, while Jimmy Wilson logged 36 snaps defensively. Who starts doesn’t really matter because both will play. Last season, starting strong safety Marcus Gilchrist played 929 snaps, while Addae played 393 defensively. The Chargers need Addae and Wilson to stay healthy and play well.
Younger isn't the same as better.
