I don't think he forgot about the run in 2006/7 when LT was setting records. I think he decided NOT to run after downgrading the importance of a true blocking FB and putting everything on Rivers to win by passing 1st. Throw in a decimated OL and there you go.

2006 Norv wasn't the coach.
2007 Norv did a decent job, but that team was loaded. His coaching style was okay for a team that was perfect, especially on the offensive line (see his career as Cowboys offensive coordinator.)

Once the team stopped being perfect, Norv made sure to expose our shitty pass blocking as much as possible. Rivers hung onto the ball much longer than the offensive line was capable of blocking for. Same thing happened last year under Reich. Our offensive line, although we got one key upgrade, can't be expected to pass block for long. Let's get rid of the ball quickly. If it takes more incompletions to keep Rivers healthy, then so be it.

I blame CRS for the 2006 comment. I agree with you about protecting Rivers, but not as pessimistic about new OL as you. I don't think they will be emphasizing the pass over the run and exposing Rivers with BO (solid, 1 year more exp), Woody back, and Gorgon. New OL may actually have 4 upgrades- or not- we just have to let them play to find out. I'm not sold on Watt @ C, but many think Fluker will be a better G than T, Franklin is certainly better than either Rinehart or Porkschops for LG and Barksdale's history suggests he's a better than RT than Fluker was for us last year.

And NOrv was ONLY good when he had a superior OL AND was OC , not HC. Made his reputation based on having a couple highly productive seasons out of a Cowboys lineup stocked with HOF QB, RB, OLs, WR and very good TE. His Offense never worked the same anyplace else.
