The only thing Telesco said that i thought was interesting was his comment about the team having sufficient talent to have had made the playoffs.

That is his hubris. He must think being near the bottom in run d and sacks on d is sufficient talent. I remember after his 1st draft when the team still had glaring holes he was asked when the team could compete for the post season and he said this year.

Because of lousy depth they went into HOU and lost to one of the worst teams in the league on their 3rd string QB when a win would have secured a playoff berth.

The run D has been awful for years. We were near the bottom again this year giving up 138 yds/gm. They were too cheap to resign Melvin Ingram so our sacks fell to ~ 2/gm. They never do enough in FA to be a real contender , just patch and replace. That would work if you can draft well but they can't

My biggest fear is that he fails to fix the defense and we essentially waste a 3rd year of J Herbert with no playoff appearance.


If TT screws this year up and we don't at least make playoffs again , I have a bad feeling Herbert will not sign another contract with the chargers down the road.
