So, Chargers get a potentially elite pass-rusher at (or a little under) cost for 2022 and can move on after one year if it doesn't work out. Mack is 31 and missed 10 games last year, but we know what he was and can be.

Nothing is guaranteed so if its a swing and a miss there is no long term negative beyond the loss of the picks and whatever is paid this year.

We have a good locker room. It helps signing and retaining players.

If Mack returns to 2020 form this is an absolute steal even at his cap numbers. Cap risk is minimal.

My guess they rework some of those numbers. To truly get the players they still need in free agency: signing Justin Jones, signing an IDL, getting a top level CB - they have to rework the contract

Mack is also a stout run defender too.
I don't see Chenna as automatically gone unless they have big expectations from Rumph II.

Mack is not someone i would automatically want play 45 + snaps each game.

Nwosu - is he really worth 10-11m per year - thats risky to me

Chandler and Von -- again, they are older too and Jourdan Rodrique thinks Von is getting the same as Mack. I think I would like Mack
Its a calculated risk that I think its smart.
                Right on.

Look at it this way: if Mack and Bosa both have career seasons, the Chargers are in the AFC Championship game. Possibly at home.

Mack is washed. I’m not sure trading a 2nd rd pick for him is anywhere close to being worth it.

If it was a 4th rd pick then sure.

Plus he has a bit of hefty contract too.
Tom Telesco’s Results in 9 years as Chargers GM:

                  - 69-74 record
                  - 0 division titles in 9 yrs as GM
                  - Worst record among all active GMs with same tenure
                  - 6th worst winning percentage among all active GMs overall
                  - 2 playoff wins despite elite QB all 9 yrs
                  - Team still has the same weaknesses (Oline and run defense) that it had when hired as GM in 2013
                  - Consistently puts together horrible depth, expects starters to never miss games

Well they need to upgrade IDL and CB. But yes, if Bosa and Mack have normal seasons for Bosa and Mack, and having two should help the other, the Chargers should be in the playoffs.

Sometimes you have to take a chance and swing for the fences.

Of all the positions to fill on defense: CB, IDL, IDL and Edge. I felt good about the other three: you know the names, bring back Jones, add an IDL like SJD, BJ Hill, the Jets guy and CB - JC or Ward or Reed

but Edge to me was always the tough one as I wasnt sold on Chenna

I don't think they will. His cap hit before the trade was was going to be 30 mil for Chicago. And there is an out for 2023 if he don't work out here.

Of course we hope he does.

I'm a Charger fan, and I approve of this trade!
Now go get a CB, a DT, and an RB1b, and let the draft begin!

Why would Chenna come back as a reserve?
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
                          Let’s win one for Mack.
