Agree, they could have selected a non-derogatory Native American name of some type. Nobody needed to change a name for me, but I still can’t see how its not obvious to the hold outs that Redskin is a derogatory phrase for Native Americans. Chiefs=fine. Braves=fine. Indians=fine although Indians are from India and they used the name for Native Americans which is not actually correct. Actual Tribe Name=fine. To me, the official judge of no one.

But Redskin is like SlantEye is like Wetback is like N-word is like lots of derogatory terms for certain races. Jmo. I’m not a sensitive guy and I’m not Native American so i can’t pretend it ever bothered me. Just observing and thinking ...

    But Commanders … I’ll just never … lol …

yet the Natives had NO problem with it. Only those who are a part of this new Pussy America did.

Just like Aunt Jamima's family was fine with it. Only the puss pusses ruined it.

What's manly about Aunt Jemima's syrup?

That's no longer the name of the Cleveland baseball team and this thread is no longer about WRs.

Chiefs or Braves don't bother me. IMO, it is a token of respect to name a team after a group of people. The Cowboys, 49ers, Vikings, Pirates, Buccaneers, Packers, Trail Blazers, Steelers, Patriots, Texans, Oilers, Saints, Rangers, Yankees, Mariners, Brewers, Padres - are groups of people who are paid homage by naming a team after them.

But I always felt "Redskins" was a derogatory term. Add in the fact that the team's owner who changed the name from Braves to Redskins, George Preston Marshall, was a notorious racist who refused to allow black players on his team until forced by the league to do so in the '60s.

But I agree, Washington Commanders just doesn't jive.

The Washington Blueskins?? That's my final offer.....they like blueberries in D.C.

Andre Carter was a former receiver with 23 receptions for the Blueskins last year, and a 12.3 ypc average.......keeping on topic.

Kind of like what they did with porn movies in the 70's: there had to be an educational component, something of redeeming value.
              Must have been hilarious.

"Commanders" feels like the generic football team name from a low budget sports film.

This isn't about our WRs, but bout the WRs drafted high this year. This draft has been touted as one of the best ever for WR prospects. But drafting a WR high is often as much of a crap shoot as drafting a QB high. So many of them disappoint or are busts.

In the 2020 draft for example, Henry Ruggs, Jerry Jeudy and Jalen Reagor were drafted 12th, 15th and 21st, all before Justin Jefferson. Reagor is a colossal bust in Philly. Jeudy has struggled in Denver and Ruggs is already out of the league.

In 2019, Marquise Brown and N'Keal Harry were the only two 1st round WRs. Brown has been about average; Harry is a bust. The 2nd round in that draft was colossal for WRs, with five Pro Bowlers and the Raiders got Renfrow in the 5th round in 2019

Mike Williams was the 2nd WR picked in 2017, No. 7 overall. Corey Davis was drafted No. 5 overall and John Ross No. 9. Three WRs drafted in the top 9: Davis hasn't been a bust, but he's never performed up to his billing. Ross is a bust. Our Mike Will has been the best of the trio, but not the best WR drafted in 2017: The Rams got Kupp and the Bucs got Chris Godwin in the 3rd round of that draft.

In the 2022 draft, six WRs were drafted in the top 18 picks. I don't know if that has ever happened before. It may be unprecedented. But I can almost guarantee that a few of these guys are going to either disappoint - not live up to their draft position - or turn out to be complete busts. It's going to be interesting to see who and who does not perform as advertised as rookies.

                  Here are the six:

Drake London (USC) Falcons #8 overall
Garrett Wilson (Ohio State) Jets #10 overall
Chris Olave (Ohio State) Saints #11 overall
Jameson Williams (Bama) Lions #12 overall
Jahan Dotson (Penn State) Wash #16 overall
Treylon Burks (Arkansas) Titans #18 overall

Do you have an opinion who and who is not going to live up to the hype among these six? I don't know the players that well, but I think Burks is the most likely to be a bust. The Titans didn't want to pay AJ Brown, so they sent him packing to the Eagles and drafted Burks to replace him, and that may turn out to be a disaster for Tenn. I don't think Burks will be the only one of these guys to be a huge disappointment or a bust though. Who else do you think will fail?

Also, who do you think will be the best WR of this draft? Will it be one of the 1st rounders, or will it be a 2nd or 3rd day guy, like Kupp in 2017?

I liked Olave. I think he'll do well. WRs are tough to get right though. I have no superstar or bust choices.

Velo - just stop. If we truly had the O and WR corps you say we do, we’d have made the playoffs. We had opportunity in multiple games, as bad as the D was, we had 4th quarters we stunk in, both D and O. After Allen and MWill, and Ekeler, we had meh. Cook vanished, Parham got injured, we just didn’t have the horses. Scoreboard rules and the Raiders made the playoffs. I’m high on Palmer, and Everett looks to be a good signing. But even with an improved D, we will need these O players to step up and deliver. If they don’t, I expect another non-playoff season: in today’s NFL, the first 58 minutes don’t mean squat if it’s within one score, and the team that can punch it in wins. I’m very glad Staley is focusing on red zone and 3rd down plays in TC, we need that to get over the top. But until it happens in games, against division rivals, don’t preach to me we have some kind of supreme O. We didn’t last year whatever the stats tell you. Go back and watch the games, yeah the D sucked but we did not close out games we could’ve won.

With all he improvements on D, what excuses will you make in a close loss? Not saying we should win every game, but when we have the ball with the chance to win, shouldn’t we? As explosive as you claim this O is, we should not be leaving Ws on field like we did last season, right? Not with the best WR corps in the league, in a pass-friendly NFL. We better be effing winning those games, no damn excuses.

pretty gloom and doom, guess that's where you get the name Blueman.

Chargers Will make the playoffs this year from better field position alone. The run defense looks drastically improved. Special teams more strategic and better punter tactics. Year 3 Herbert will only continue to improve, and more weapons to spread field out. Running back group looks improved and teams cannot load the box. The fact Chargers have much improved depth could also play a big factor. Love the veteran signings and more players in prime, peak playing ability. Coaching can be less desperate and less risk taking, using analytics and experience gained from year one. No way in hell the Chargers miss playoffs this time around.
