If we are building towards a championship run, there must be consistent improvements, starting today.

CBs not looking back for the football, DEs lining up offsides, STs hitting PRs way, way early, are examples of poor fundamentals, to say nothing of too many penalties overall.

This is ultimately on our HC and is totally unacceptable in 2022.
In the future, whenever we draft a CB, I think Staley & Staff need to look real carefully at the tape and make sure they pick dudes who can turn their head...AND tackle...

If another team wants to give Stick a shot as a starter, they will have the opportunity to acquire him next year without giving up any picks. But I don't see that happening, unless, God forbid, he has to step in for Herbert sometime this season and he plays lights out. More likely what will happen is that he re-signs as a back up with the Chargers next year. The Chargers will have to make a decision whether to keep him around.
Stick has shown enough to me that he's worth keeping as either #2 or #3 QB...he already knows the system, has played well when given the opportunity, and in this age of Covid, along with the normal injury potential, a capable backup is essential. Bolts should make a fair 2+1 offer to Stick...if he gets a better deal somewhere else, fine...extra decent backup QB's actually DO grow on trees...

After Carson Wentz was drafted (#2 overall in 2016), Stick was 49–3 record as a starter at North Dakota State and holds the record for most wins by a starting quarterback in NCAA Division I FCS history. Trey Lance, who replaced him at NDSU, started 16 or 17 games (all victories) before he was drafted at #3 overall. That was pretty much the extent of his college experience. In his MMQB column today, Peter King note that Lance, since high school, has only thrown 389 passes in college and real NFL games. I have real doubts about Lance as a pro QB, but I guess we will find out soon if he was worth all the picks the 49ers gave up to draft him. Meanwhile, Wentz's career is on shaky ground. Maybe Stick, the Chargers' 5th round pick in 2019, turns out to be better than either of them.

Here's what is likely to happen *next*, IMO--

This Saturday, when the Chargers and Cowboys play, Stick and Chase Daniel will reverse roles: Stick will play the 1st Half with guys who will probably make the roster, while Daniel will play the 2nd Half, with guys who are unlikely to make the team, or vying primarily for a practice squad spot.

So we'll see Stick against better competition than he faced vs. the Rams, and a better supporting cast. If he still outplays Daniel by a significant margin? There's no point in having Daniel occupy a roster spot.

Huh? Stats for that game? ESPN NFL has them.

Still don't get the love for Stick. It's great that he had success against a lower level of competition in college but he is undersized QB who had a few garbage time snaps in 3 seasons and looked okay in preseason games against other teams backups. We are in deep trouble if he has to play, though pretty much every team in the league has that same problem.

I hope Stick does get the start and gets to play with better OL and weapons. Did they do that last season? I remember Stick having Guyton and Palmer on field and making plays with them both. However, even if Stick shows up Daniel big time, I think they still want Daniel in the QB room as a player, to help Herbert prepare. It seems Daniel could do that as a coach, and I agree with you in not wanting to waste a roster spot on a 3rd QB, I'd rather have a 6th WR. But they seem to be intent on Daniel on the roster. Maybe they'll change their minds? We'll see.
