The only problem is, if they hire Payton, guess who he will probably keep around as OC?

they got killed in the 3rd quarter again, and they had the ball to start the half.

      Slater and Linsley were playing.
Without the big play, pinpoint pass by Herbert , it would have been all futility on part of the offense.
And then the 3 throws, where none had a chance for a td inside the 10.

The trend for 3rd quarter problems continues this season.

When this young coaching staff starts talking about needing to execute better, you know they are done.

Jim Kirk losing command, then regaining it. 14 games to go for Staley to do likewise.

Plenty of season left, and Herbert is a joy to watch, but Im definetly worried.
Problem is that Herbert will regress this year, playing injured and behind an even more injured/shuffled OL will lead to him developing some bad habits. Plus he's due for that sophomore slump he never had. You can already see it in some of his decision making and it's not even his fault as nobody is getting open, either.

All the more reason to blow out the coaching staff and start fresh with his development next year.

To be fair, we did close the gap to 6 points in the third before we lost Slater and then the wheels fell off with Norton giving up 9 pressures in 23 passing attempts. In the KC game, we also lost 2 linemen in the third quarter. So it is kind of understandable, we need to overcome it.

Some believe that a teams avalanche of injuries is rooted in the overall problem a headcoach has with his team and himself. It’s not all just plain bad luck. Might be time to bring in a witch doctor to put a stop to it. “fhifft!…fhifft!…fhifft!”

How do we "overcome" it when the backups are horrible? Can we just fast forward to 2024 already and be done with Staley/Lombo's obligatory 3 years here.

Yeah but a Peyton OC isn’t really an OC at all.

thank you to the powers that be in that building who thought Storm Norton was a serviceable back up OT

same for the other side of the ball - they go into the season with Chris Rumph as your third edge rusher

Again, and again, its the GM player personnel decisions

I don't have a problem with Rumph as depth. One more rusher would certainly help.

I absolutely have no clue how Norton is even on the roster as even a backup.

Our D needs to get much better! Mac needs to be a force, he has faded since the raiders game. JC needs to start!!!!!! IF Slayer is going to be our number 1 WR, he needs to take extra time on his hamstrings and body. We lost this game because our D did not play anywhere close to their potential, and gave up the big run, AGAIN! We lost this 1 game because Herbert was not close to 95 percent and he should not have played in this game. I'm pretty sure IF Staley had to do it again he would start Chase. It doesn't matter we lost this game anymore, what matters is we win next week and get to 500. I know there were certain fans who thought we were going to go undefeated, because of the way Staley uses "the secret" principles with his talk! This is fine and all, but he'll learn from this, just like he learned about going for it on 4 and forever when we don't really have to.

We all see it, Staley needs to stop trying to be the players best friend, and use his game knowledge to turn the corner on this! We all believe in him, again he will have to use his knowledge and get to work and come up with a game plan to get the Chargers to 2-2.

The players need to have a players only meeting and let it be known these kind of games that just went down in a full LA stadium with the majority of fans being there down for them, are not acceptable here, period.

If a player asks Staley if he likes Tupac, etc. or something like this, his answer needs to something more along the lines like, I love all the rap songs that inspire our players to go out and dominate a game with total effort and Win the game, and then walk away. As opposed to using something like this as a moment to show the players he knows this or that, or he's hip or something like that with them. Screw that.

Irrelevant as Payton calls his own plays.
