Not to go all revisionist history on the signing of Staley but when Shefter broke the news about Daboll (turned out to be wrong) - I was pretty happy. As one thing about hiring the "hot coordinator" - they are usually coming off a period of success. If you look at Daboll - he was with the Chiefs - not good; the Broans; not good. Went back and forth with the Patriots and Alabama. He has been around the block. Been at the highs and lows and somebody who has seen that - might be better prepared for failure

Again, Bruce Arians and Mike McCoy. Arians was around a long time - bottom and top

Now back to worrying about STorm Norton starting Sunday

I was pissed when I heard we hired the greenest candidate in Staley. Had the same criticism about when his superstars went down, so did this game plan.
then I heard his speak and was sold,
Beat KC week 2 last year and more sold
he responded well to his adversity last season by beating the raiders with "his guys"
now he's facing adversity like he's never experienced, and am cautiously optimistic.
Daboll was my first choice because of his thorough experience, then when Pederson was available, I was high on him until he announced he was taking a year off.
Staley has to show that he's a walker, and not just a great talker.

He's pegged James as his guy, so if the defense doesn't respond, I'm going to start looking at James and ask him to be the leader that "coach on the field" to make sure the coverages are tight for at least 2-3 seconds.
not the leader who leaves press conferences for Herbert and Ekeler after a week 3 loss.

Playcalling - In this Miami v. Baltimore game, Baltimore has a 4th & 1 goes short yardage in situational football and is lined up in 13 personnel. Lamar is in shotgun, with the ace back in protection to his left. TE Mark Andrews is in-motion across the formation right to left, from weak to strongside. Then Andrews sets up in a stack behind the tackle for a full second, begins to cross the formation in the opposite direction and now under center. Andrews gives C Linderbaum the goose, and it's a QB keeper to the TE. First Down. The ol' goose-and-go or QB keeper.

Why wouldn't this play work with H-back Zander Horvath as QB in a two-point or short yardage situation?

I think theres a LOT we can learn from the Ravens O this season.

I like it, although we desperately need Linsley back and Feiler to regain form. I understand not wanting to throw the rookie in mid game last week.

The positive news is that the coaching staff recognizes how horrendous Storm Norton is and understands they cannot put Norton out there with an injured franchise QB.
