Any chance Rivers retires after this season?

Honest question. With the team likely finishing with 12+ losses; Rivers taking a beating; Floyd, Gates, Weddle almost certainly gone; a city losing interest; a team with no real home...I could go on.

Rivers doesn't need the money, and he'd get pro-rated pay for 2015. Not the best way to bow out, but the next 2-3 years look dismal.

Anyone thing he might just call it quits?

I think his competitive nature won't let him quit, otherwise why did he sign the contract this year?

Nothing would surprise me, but I think him signing the extension really means he wants to play it out here.

Maybe he thought there was actually some...hope? This team looks lost, they've pretty much quit, and he's gotta be thinking about his health/family, no?

This has crossed my mind on more than one occassion.

I know he just signed the extension but he probably didn't envision this team falling apart so quickly. Can this team be playoff caliber by next year? I highly doubt it.

I don't think Rivers' body or patience last another 3 years for a POTENTIAL rebuild.

I actually kind of hope he retires. Try getting LA to buy in on a Kellen Clemens-led team! lol

He signed for a lot of money, regardless of how much he already has, that's a lot to leave on the table. Maybe he pulls a Carson Palmer and demands a trade IF they leave. If they remain in San Diego, he'll be back.

Maybe he will demand a trade. Could get a ring if he were in Denver.

I'm sure he has a no trade clause, so any trade will be on his terms. I don't see, and I wouldn't blame him if he left, how he could want to stay in this dysfunctional situation. He deserves so much better, but hey, that's how the Spani roll when it comes to their franchise players.

So even if San Diego was to entertain trading Rivers it would have to be a team Rivers wanted to go to, at this point in his career he would want to play for a winner. Here is a look at the teams that need QB

San Francisco - Rivers veto they are bad as we are
                      Cleveland - see above
                      Tenessese - they have Mariotto
                      Philadelphia- ? possible
                      Houston - ? possible
                      Washington ? possible
                      St. Louis ? possible
                      NY Jet? ? possible

Out of teams with upside to be contenders it would be Philly, Houston, St. Louis, and the possibly New York Jets. Time to just rebuild the whole team and let Rivers go some where that he has a shot.

Rivers just signed a big contract. He isn't going anywhere because the dead money/cap hit would be outrageous.
