And I understand since the bye, there have been more injuries that one cannot think would happen. That said, during the bye week: Allen was out, Williams was out, Parham and Palmer were both in concussion protocol . Telesco, Staley, John Boy, the groundskeeper, ticket taker - nobody did a thing.

Doss, Hightower and Reed can't get on the field. Bandy has shown what he can and cannot do. Try something

The chargers players fought all the way thru yesterday despite being decimated by injuries to start the game. Then they suffered more injuries and they kept battling! It’s been key guys getting hurt all year and now even key reserves. I’ve never seen anything like this!!! This team hasn’t laid down and that is saying something, I think the coaching staff deserves credit for that. I honestly didn’t think the chargers were going to be in this game let alone hold a lead until 7 minutes remained in the game.

That said, the roster management thru the injuries hasn’t been ideal but that could be a money thing. No trades or veteran signings despite the obvious need for reinforcements, that’s not on staley, it might not even be on TT, it’s probably on the folks signing the pay checks. The depth WAS improved from last year, but it’s still a work in progress. Had this rash of injuries occurred last season the chargers probably win 5 games total last year. But you see teams signing reinforcements all around the league. So far the chargers claimed an OLB, then signed another OLB, then signed a couple of WRs to the practice squad and it hasn’t been enough.

The positive is that they are still 5-4 and still have time to make some moves and buy time until some key guys return, I’m very proud of how these guys fought yesterday, very proud. I think brandon and the staff deserve credit for that.

Why? It was a nail biter last night despite everyone saying we were getting blown out.

Good post. Especially the part in bold.

You should read Niner fan comments. They are happy with the win, but they feel the Chargers outplayed the 49ers until the injuries just became too much to overcome, but still made the game closer than it should've been, from their perspective.

I think they are right to be concerned but the chargers played their hearts out for their coach and each other. NOBODY with half a brain expected this to be a contest, NOBODY…kudos to the players and the coaching staff, they made themselves proud in front of a national TV audience!

They still have a little cap space left, but I think it is more a philosophy thing (and a crappy one at that) than a cheapness thing. For whatever reason, they don't do in season moves and I think it has to do with coveting draft picks. Now if you asked anyone on this board if we'd rather trade for a receiver for the rest of the year and miss out on drafting a McKitty - the answer is a no brainer.

there are still some FAs out there that can help no cap ramifications for next year either or draft capital required, you just need some bandaids while the top guys return. But that requires spending money…

I wasn’t biting my nails at all. Felt like a fait accompli in the second half

During the bye week - for the right player would have given up a cond'l 3rd rounder. Claypool was more than that. The Cooks situation was his contract next year being guaranteed. But were there other options that could have been had for a day 3 pick. Something we will never know as none of the Chargers beat reporters - you know, report that stuff.

As far as decision making with replacing players - they like to use the practice squad. I understand those players are in teh system so understand it - but maybe they can still find better players

Well at this point, NFL veterans are not guaranteed an entire salary - only half a year. So a guy like Linval Joseph is a bit more than say Gaziano of Fehoko. And last year, Joseph started ahead of both of them.

I want something more this week other than the teams OWN practice squad players.

the chiefs managed to do it and they didn't even need a WR. Would have been great to have Toney. They should have explored a trade for Keenan
