Chargers should have gone for it on 4th and inches! Also at the end of the game with better HCing they could of run the clock down a bit more before turning it over to the Chiefs QB for the final drive, We literally set the table for one of Patrick's fantastic finishes. . .

Arbitrary officiating, especially on coverage in passing plays, continues to be decisive in outcomes.

Have you seen the blatant non call OPI on Marquez Valdes-Scantling vs Bryce Callahan yet? I didn't think so. It happened on the very first play, in KCs final game winning drive.

Three plays later, Derwin was called for Defensive Holding, in coverage away from where the ball was thrown. Derwin was defending the Great Kelce the same way he had all game, with no calls. The officials had a surprise for Derwin James, finally, with the game on the line.

Of course we have problems. QB, IOL, DBs had bad games. This did not help any.
      We play modern Harball.

        Got it.
Well, yeah, you pretty much require at least one unicorn or two elite level players on the Dline for a defense to shine as a whole for the most part.

plays hard, i'm proud of them for competing, these are the words of an AYSO coach on Saturday morning at the park. Wins are all that matter in the NFL and they get out schemed, out coached and out played in the second half against the better teams in the league or even the shit teams like the jags with better coaches. It's not good enough. That's the bottom line. You can dream and fantasize about a healthy charegers roster and what that would look like. we all did in the spring and summer. plenty of the media did as well. but here we are. No better than last season and probably in a worse place because the same shit keeps repeating.

When that becomes a pattern you build a culture of defeat.
Staley has given lip service to the "chargering" label this team has but he just doesn't have the stones, smarts or experience to reverse it. That takes a real dude.

Honestly, all we would need are two players like Alfonso Boone or Aubrayo Franklin as DTs for the most part to make it work. These two aren't stand-out names for stats, but they could take on double teams and still get bull rushes for pressures while screwing up the opposing offenses' run games.

Every fan base complains the calls are favoring the other team. Every Game Every Fan Base. So yes we Chief fans saw lots of non calls etc that went against out team.. Its unfortunate that all the camera angels and replays we get ad to our enjoyment while exposing the flaws in officiating.

Sure, with few injuries Staley and Lombo could have fully implemented their schemes.
That would be a nice world.

Lombo is close to having everyone, save Slater, back. Don't look for the offense to play a complete game anytime soon.

Staley's D had Bosa and then JC Jackson go down. Jackson was replaceable, thanks to the depth at corner and their lack of injuries.
                  Bosa, not so much.

Still, no excuse for the Defense to be one of the worst in the league.
They were one of the worst defenses before the series of injuries at DT.
If you have to be injury free to be middle of the pack, that tells you a lot about the guy putting together the D.

                  Chargers are not close.
Close like Lynn always losing close games his final year.
Other teams have an extra gear when it matters that this year's chargers lack.
Close losses are an allusion that this team is ready to compete.

                  Chargers can hold there own, with a few breaks, against the level of competition of the Broncos;
this is not a good football team.

If they were healthy, they would have snuck into the playoffs and get quickly bounced.
You can't win in the NFL without a first rate qb and coaching staff.
Serious question? So the Chargers almost and maybe should have won this game. Overall stats were similar. So should KC fire their DC & OC coordinators too? After all the Chargers were all over the KC defense and Mahomes was pressured etc. After all the Chargers had lots of guys out so KC should have cruised.

Honestly: I see these two teams very close. Very close. Every team has areas of weakness and is one key player injury from losing close games. If Williams was available all game you guys probably win.

You knew it was bad when fat Andy gave the refs the Chefs game ball.

Oh, I did that at the beginning of a game a few weeks ago. I am not immune!

Right now I am just too depressed to write much of anything. The Chargers have been this way not just for years, but for decades.

Bad calls or non calls happen as you said, to every team every game. Its just amazing that the bad non calls or calls when it matters always favor the Chefs.

The timing of the calls make all the difference in the world.

I don't think Herbert had a bad game. In fact, this was the first game since he was injured in which he looked like himself. I remember seeing one bad pass, on a route Allen was running towards the left sideline fairly early in the game, and Herbert led him too far. The final INT was a desperation throw.

Added: He was 23-30, and those were two of his seven incompletions. I don't think many of the other five were bad passes, and he wasn't checking down all the time like he had been.
