Player safety my ass. The flagging of big hits is because offense drives ratings. Labeling a player in the act of catching the ball as "defenseless" is an absolute disgrace to the sport. Literally telling defenders to allow them to make a catch rather than hitting them.

It also encourages QBs to throw murderballs and get their receivers killed in order to draw a 15 yard free first down.
